My old man was a Gunner's Mate in WWII and Korea. He said they used to call the 1911 "Old Ugly"....

Days ago in the USN, we'd often refer to our Colt by making light of the fact that so many weapon's nomenclature is M1xxx as part of their NSN (National Stock Number), so we'd append text after the stock number. The "M1911A1 Deadly Force Applicator".
