I did the full disassembly of my Hi-Power years before I ever did it with my 1911s as part of an installation of a C&S extended thumb safety. It's not that hard. I succesfully used a clothes-pin repeatedly as the "third hand". I tried the wire-tie, but it did not work as well. I think all I used was a punch set, hammer and bench block, besides the "third hand".
My HP does not have the firing pin safety, so I don't know how that could complicate things.
I recall I lost the little spring behind the thumb safety plunger despite warnings to be carefull with it. So, be careful with that, if you're into that peice.
