Manual safety disassemly?

How do I remove the manual safety on the gun so that I can put a single sided safety on it? If I get a safety off of midway, will it be a direct fit or will there need to be some smithing?

Remove the right side first, then the left. I believe there is a sticky in FAQs on it. It will most likely need to be fitted.

There is no sticky FAQS here in the Taurus forum but there should be
I agree for all the things that pertain to the PT-1911.

Perhaps looking outside the Taurus forum would be helpful then. The attached sticky has information on how to dissassemble plus how the parts all go together.

Also this question gets asked so much that if you hit the search button there are bound to be a ton of threads on this topic. Here are a few that looks like they will help.

take off the slide
take off the grip pannels
cock the hammer
move the safety to on - then to 3/4 off - apply outward pressure (pull apart)
focus on getting the right side loose first - as said - may need to use a plastic card or putty knife to help increase the pressure to get the interlocking pin (grip safety pin) apart
once the right side is off - the left should pull out
watch the plunger spring and pin that they do not fly across the rooom!!!!

You may have to fit the safety lug to the sear.

drop the MSH
remove the grip safety
reinstall the MSH without the grip safety
now you can see the alignment of the safety lug to the sear
use a small flat file - one stroke at a time - test fit -
fit MUST be tight to the sear -
