round hanging up

My 15 year old son just bought a sr1911. Appears new. Today at a IDPA match, the day after he bought it, he had problems clearing the pistol. The round would just stay held in place by the extractor. Took some help to get it off. DOes it just need to be broke in or should it have a little work?

Sounds like an ejector issue. is the ejector broken?

It ejects fine while shooting just trying to eject a loaded round. I messed with after I posted. The nose of the bullet contacts the slide and stops it so its stuck there on the extractor and the slide. Takes some hard shaking to get it out.

I see. Is the pull on the slide quick and brisk when this occurs?

Extractor may be too tight or hook too sharp on the lower corner.

This was a problem with some longer nose ejectors causing this. What caliber is the pistol chambered for?

Also, are these handloads? The overall length may be too long.

It's a brisk attempt. OAL 1.275. Happened with factory and reloads.

I would tune the extractor to kick the cartridge 'up' a wee bit more. In other words, move the inside corner of the ejector nose down by kissing it with a file, i.e. angle the file backwards on top of the ejector nose.
