So a guy walks into a gun store

So my son talked me into going to a local gun store today. He wanted to look at the new XD line. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted what looked like an old tired Springfield Armory 1911. So I have to take a look at it. It was a little on the dirty side but didn't look too tired. I glanced at the price tag they only wanted 499 for it. So I ask the sales guy if you would mind if I took the slide off the frame. Totally expecting to find something wrong on the interior of the gun. After looking over the pistol pretty closely and knowing that I really didn't have a whole lot of money in my pocket and not wanting to feel like I just wasted the sales guys time I offered him $450 for it. The salesman said he'd have to go back and check the books to see what they had into it. I totally expected him to come back with a counter offer, however I ended up putting my money where my mouth was as he said sure we'll take the 450.
Well I took the pistol home and did a complete detail strip and cleaning of it. Underneath the range junk and garbage that the previous owner didn't bother to clean off I found what looks like a very clean range officer 45.
So I'm pretty happy with my find today. As long as my wife doesn't find out, because then they'll be some serious words exchanged.
I will post a picture of her when I find some time.
That is pics of the RO45!!

Sheesh! You guys need to learn how to handle your wives.

You buy a new gun & put it in the safe. You only get it out when she's not home. A few months later, when she does discover it & starts to rip you a new one for buying a new gun without permission; you can truthfully say, "Oh, I've had this gun for a long time."

I'm an old phart & my wife no longer cares if I buy new guns & knives that I couldn't afford in my younger days. She just wants me to keep the receipt & the box, so she knows how much she can sell them for when I die.

No wife here, but my girlfriend encourages me to spend money on my truck and guns. She knows they're my only two vices (don't drink, quit smoking cigs years ago, try not to eat out much these days), so trading linen squares for happiness is a good trade off.

That's the most killer deal on a RO I've seen yet. I bought mine from a pawn shop in Phoenix and I don't quite remember the price, but it wasn't $450. Since the RO is essentially a no-frills TRP, I think you made out like a bandit.

Here's another idea of dealing with wives and girlfriends, take them to the range with you and include them in your shooting hobby/passion. Make a day of it and stop at Crackerbarrel on the way home,it's a win-win, time together and a new shooting buddy. She may turn out to be a better shot than you. Before you know it your new gun purchases will double. LOL

Nothing better than a gun shop steal to start your weekend!

As for the wife, that's why ALL my firearms are black. "Oh - THAT one honey? I've ALWAYS had that one - it's the BLACK one - see!"

Here in Komifornia, used guns command a premium due to the fact that they are "off roster" and rare!

Kinda joking, and not at the same time.

Still waiting for that promised picture of the wife LOL....as for the recomendations of taking the other half to the range, I have a warning....it's likely to get expensive and fill up the safe quickly!

Take this from a professional "cheater".

Buy said gun/guitar.

Place under the spare bedroom bed to gather dust for 30-60 days, the more the better.

Ask her to "help me find said gun/guitar (that you've had forever allegedly) and strategically guide her into "finding" it herself.

Works ever time.

True story.

Epilogue:

Back massages and foot rubs are $$ in the bank vs. 'splaining sheeit to Lucy!

Trust.

Have mercy!

I look like this for awhile until she forgives me, time spent looking like this is dependent on the price of the firearm .........

Took a bit but here is the RO. Range report; good shooter, likes 185gr target loads, just need a lighter recoil spring.

Nice price on a nice pistol. If yours has the ILS and you didn't get the box or directions then get some info online before you remove the MSH.
