Mag inserted, but empty chamber. I often have one or two of our younger children wander down in the middle of the night.

Perhaps I should consider a bed side gun safe.

4" Ruger Redhawk .45 Colt, bedside drawer and fully loaded. Since it sits months at a time without being touched, I feel more confident with a wheelgun in this roll than I would with any auto. There is also a Remington 870 and a .44 Mag lever action carbine under the bed, both loaded with empty chambers.

Sig P220R with light / laser with loaded mag in / empty chamber and extra mag in nightstand. We have 2 teenagers so use of hand held light is important for me to make sure I'm not pointing gun at late night friendly.

Welcome to the forum Marky. Just the opposite, you should be proud to admit it, because that gun can safe your life.

Especially if you need a boat anchor, or a bludgeon, or a hammer...

Good idea Sir. There are a great variety of biometric safes on the market. We have firearms to protect our loved ones, not pose a threat to them.
There is a point in munchkin development when their ability to manipulate a firearm is greater than their capability to reason. A scary stage, for sure.
God bless you and yours.

Ruger GP100 loaded with 158gr XTP's loaded to about 1150FPS + 1 speed loader of the same.(No mag springs to wear out)
I also have my daily carry Kimber Raptor near by but sometimes I just unload the Kimber to let the mag spring have a rest, I do rotate mags regularly once every 3-5 weeks usually.

Amen to that, mine's under the pillow, don't have any drawers on my nightstand, and it's just like it is when the sun is up...condition 1, with a 50 caliber 230 grain solid copper hollowpoint bullet.

Mag springs won't wear out by leaving mags loaded, but they do wear out from constant loading and unloading. It is better to just leave them loaded.
