I'm OK waiting a while longer for my XDs to be returned. I liked it a lot.. I miss it even though I barely shot 200 rds through it before the recall hit...been spending my time learning my G30s and breaking in my Black. Ops #silverlining
"As we noted in last Friday's update, our testing of potential upgrade solutions has continued and we are pleased to tell you that we have made significant progress over the last seven days. We have now identified what we believe is our final upgrade solution and throughout this coming week we will be continuing with our thorough and exhaustive testing of that solution. It's because of our commitment to your safety that we are conducting such extensive testing and we are working as fast as we can so that we can return your upgraded pistol to you."
I also like the fit and feel of the XDS, especially with the extended magazine. What I didn't like is being snookered about how the fix would have been two weeks and that they already had a solution when they didn't. They should have been forthcoming and simply stated that they were working on a solution and for people to stop using the gun. Period.
When they found the solution, then it would have been appropriate for them to begin a recall when they had all their ducks lined up. I would have preferred it in my possession while awaiting their engineering solution.
Their attorneys probably thought getting them off the street was more important than honesty. Every XD-S that is in their warehouse is one less potential liability for them.
We are pleased to announce that our testing was successful and is complete.
We will receive our first shipment of upgrade parts early next week and will begin shipping upgraded XD-S™ pistols back to our customers the week of October 21 on a first-received/first-upgraded basis.
Once your pistol has been upgraded and is shipped back to you, an e-mail confirmation with tracking information will be sent to you at the e-mail address you provided.

I will be glad when everyone gets their SA XDs handguns back. It shouldn't take more than six months or so for the whining and crying to stop about their Precious. I will be in the market for another upgraded XDs-45 at a fire sale price.

As a person who works in a field plagued with recalls, I would like to clear the air on why a recall may be announced before a fix or parts are available.
As it was explained to me, once a company announces a voluntary recall (meaning they chose to launch the recall) no lawsuits may be filed against the company for the defect, however any pending lawsuits filed prior to the recall announcement are still in effect, the idea is for the consumer to stop using the product for their own safety til the company can find a proper fix for the concern, it is in the consumers best interest to return the product to the manufacturer for repairs since any resulting accidental discharges would be their own fault after being notified of a safety deficiency with their weapon.
Since Springfield is voluntarily repairing the affected guns, I see no reason to cry about it, they will no doubt continue their top notch warranty service and return your gun to you as quickly as they can without sacrificing your safety. Sounds to me like a company that deserves customer support for taking care of their customers.
Cool Vid thanks...I hope they slow down just a tad when they are putting the parts in my XDs ;-)...They should through something in for our troubles. Amo? Or maybe a candy bar? ;-).
Springfield received my gun on September 6, 2013, 8:13 AM according to Fedex Tracking. That was 1 week after they published the recall. So if it is true what they said in the video that it's FIFO (First in First out) then I am expecting an email any day next week letting me know to expect Fedex at my door with my XDs.
But all I have received from them is a song and a dance to be honest.
Keep us posted. I ask because they received both of mine on Sep 3 (thanks, FedEx), but last week I got a snail mail letter from Springfield informing me of the recall for one of my SNs, and asking that I contact them. Serial e-mails & voice mails have gone unanswered.
They received mine on Sep 3, and I got it back a couple days ago. Trigger pull seems a little heavier than before, but I haven't shot it in a few months, so it may be my imagination. My 1911 trigger has me spoiled.....
I still haven't heard a peep from them, but good to hear Tim, knowing you got yours logged in Sept 3, 2013, I am 3 days behind you (Sept 6), so I guess I can expect something in 3 days.
Well, given that PakWaan's gun was returned ~4 business days before mine and they were received by Springfield on the same day, I think it is safe to conclude they are not getting them back out as quickly as they got them in. I still haven't heard about my 2nd gun, which was also logged in on the 3rd.
My XDs-45 came home yesterday with an extended magazine with two different sizes of sleeves for it to match the back straps. It appears fine and the trigger seem about the same to me. I will have to get it out to the range to check for reliability.
We have two in 9mm; one seemed to be having the intermittent 'slam-fire' issue, so it went back first. It finally returned home last week, and I was able to compare it to the one that hadn't been sent off yet. Even took 'em to the range for a comparison shoot.
The new grip safety lever is more square and blocky (side and bottom edges not rounded off), the spring behind it is noticeably stiffer, and it doesn't quite fully disappear into the grip when held down. The action is also somewhat gritty. It's not too bad though, all things considered. I probably wouldn't have noticed the difference there if I didn't have a pre-upgrade specimen to compare against.
The new trigger has the same amount of take-up as the old one, but the pull to discharge is a bit stiffer; I can easily believe SA's quoted 0.5 lb. increase. It breaks cleanly, however, and unlike the grip safety's action, I didn't notice any gritty feel on the trigger. It's going to take a bit of getting used to, though. My groups weren't as tight with the "new & improved" XDs.
In firing about 150 rounds with the post-upgrade pistol, I had one FTRB, but that was my fault -- I wasn't paying attention to my grip, and my thumb rode up against the slide. Discounting that user error, it was completely reliable with everything from remanufactured 115 grain FMJ target rounds to 135 grain +P HP defensive stuff, so I trust it enough to promote it to everyday carry once again.
Now it's the second one's turn; it arrived at SA on Monday; I'm hoping its round-trip will be less than the two months the first one was gone, but I'd much rather they do it RIGHT than QUICK.

Mine got packed up last night and will be dropped off this afternoon! Not in any huge hurry to get it back. I have holsters for other guns I can dust off for the time being. I just hope its good to go when it arrives back. (No issues experienced here)
