Recommendations

I post and read comments on the Motley Fool message boards. https://boards.fool.com/

One of the great features of those boards is that the community allows readers the ability to "recommend" a particular post. A post with a higher number of "recs" usually means that the content is of interest to the message board browsers. It is also feedback to the original poster that gives him a useful measure of content.

It would be great to have that feature present on the 1911 forum. If a certain post had a high number of recs, forum members would be more inclined to seek it out and read it. Recs would be incentive for posters to upgrade content and recs would make it easier for forum members to find the best messages.

I'd be happy to see both recommendations and "likes" on this forum. However I don't know if the current forum software even supports it.

Avoid the temptation to replace everything on your brand-new 1911 just to make it "better". Know what you're changing out and why. You may spend a lot of money fixing things that weren't broken to begin with. Shoot at least 500 rounds through it first, then decide what you don't like and want to improve. Regarding vintage 1911s, pre-1970 pistols are highly collectible in original, unaltered condition and should NEVER be refinished or modified as it completely ruins their monetary value.

If a thread is widely accepted among the forum as great content, we can look at stickying it, but currently theres no way to rep up a thread.

For the likes, a lot of sites make the argument that likes would make the site closer to facebook. If theres enough input on getting it added, we can look at it.
