Five Tribes Created by Covid-19 -- Light Reading Material

People, including those of us commenting in this sub-section, have differing responses to this pandemic (or whatever we call it).

One London-based RT writer decided to try to classify these reactions into five categories or tribes.

https://www.rt.com/op-ed/489356-coro...rprising-ways/

Nothing earthshaking about these classifications. But by placing people's reactions in such a manner, we can perhaps gain a better understanding of the Covid-19 related political and social forces coming into play in this election year.

Again, this is more in the category of light reading than heavy, serious stuff. So read or skip as per your interest in such material.

Indeed. I cannot disagree with your observation.

But never overestimate the intelligence of a lot of people...e.g., those who'll vote for any Dem/socialist candidate.

I don't take the article as totally serious, but at the same time, I suspect that a lot of people casting votes in November will be of one or a combination of these mindsets.

I noted that the article unfortunately omits the "gimme-a-handout/ban guns/it's all Trump's fault" tribe of leftists.

I don't wanna be That Guy.. you know, the Teacher's Pet, the Captain Obvious.. but.... you do realize RT = Russia Today, (or RussianTroll) and as such, their agenda may not exactly line up with ours?

I'm not so sure of CNN, NBC, CBS, etc., either. I distrust their agenda as well.

I don't mean for anyone to take the article with total seriousness; but at the same time, I think coronavirus will be a wedge issue in the upcoming November election.

I think the article is correct in the sense that coronavirus is creating as much or more division than it is creating unity. The author is likely using a tongue-in-cheek writing style to convey a more significant truth as to devisiveness.

Based in the first responses...My friends, if I've wasted your time with my OP, I must and I do apologize to you.

I do hope that some might find that the tongue-in-cheek divisiveness described in the article has some real importance in the upcoming November election. I think we'll see efforts by the Dems to play upon the types of diverging reactions people are having...and the efforts by Dems/leftists to twist these reactions so as to cast blame on conservatives/Trump supporters.

As 2A supporters, and regardless of the article I linked in OP, we should be (and I trust we are) aware that Dems will almost certainly attempt to use coronavirus as a wedge issue to exploit divisions and attack pro-2A candidates for office, including President Trump.

That's where my thinking was going, even if my OP regrettably missed the mark.

Divide and conquer, that is always in the Dem playbook although I think the only hope they truly have come Nov. is massive voter fraud and I fully expect them to use it.

Thank you so much.

Based on the first replies, for the all-around Forum membership, I fear this was not one of my better OPs. But I'm very happy if it creates a few smiles for those, as myself, who have a certain sense of wry amusement and a writer's use of such amusement to make a more serious point.

Thanks Again!

Never anything wrong with a little light reading. I myself enjoyed it. Whether a sliver of truth or a whole bunch of truth it's really up to the reader. Thanks for posting

Well that has a certain level of amusement connected to it.

But this thing that I pulled off of the side bar of the web site. Really got my attention.

https://www.rt.com/op-ed/489259-un-h...lly-incorrect/

Are people really drinking this Kool Aid?

I am surprised that Nikki Haley put up with that crap as long as she did.

RT is a semi-official propaganda arm of the Russian Federal government. They're not anti-American so much as pro-Russia.

MSNBC, CBS, ABS, and the others, on the other hand, are *definitely* anti-American.

That, unfortunately, is real. I'm sure the RT article is appropriately worded to cause division over the toppic, though. RT exists to stir the pot, sow division and discord.

Not that we need any help with that.

It's more PC language, the UN thing. And this time, because UN, well, it's supposed to be global.

I'm telling you, we gotta break away from this communist / european / socialist drive that's guiding so many in this country.

This word game was bull**** 40 years ago when I first noticed it (as a child of 10!) and it's 100x worse now.

UN is singularly wasteful body, how many times has the US had to go in an clean a blue helmet disaster?!

Indeed. RT is a useful tool for highlighting liberal/leftist/Dem/UN political correctness gone beserk.

Hard to believe, but I fear you're right about the existence of people drinking that Kool Aid.

Absolutely.

Both are very accurate assessments. RT has some value for those who can filter out the propaganda element.

And, unlike the mainstream U.S. media, RT is no friend of the Dems, the Clinton's, the Bidens, the gun-ban types, the politically correct types, etc. In some regards, some articles are a breath of fresh air. One also is usually shown unedited, uncut videos, e.g., the church shooting not long ago in N. Texas, provided that the video is not negative towards Russia.

Other than the pro-Russian bias, which most of us could mentally filter out, I think I'd take RT over CNN.
