I remember a conversation with one of the older sailors.

This was back when I was one of the younger sailors. So this was a while back. He spoke of the days back when the unions were fighting tooth and nail for better working conditions on the ships. There were historically a lot of abuses for far too long by the shipowners.

One such beef that came up during one of the contract negotiations. Was actually concerning the quality of the toilet paper that was provisioned aboard the ships. The old guy told me that the stuff was not really suitable for it's purpose.

He made a remark during the negotiations regarding this that sticks in my mind to this day for it's poignancy. As to the toilet paper itself.

"The idea is to remove, not rearrange!"
