Tennessee has begun the "Red Flag" law process...

So my question becomes...

How do we fight it and nip it in the bud? A state Senator and a state Representative have both proposed Red flag laws to begin the process of becoming a law. The Senate proposal (SB1807) has passed from "Filed from Introduction" on 1/22/20 to "Passed on Second Consideration, refer to Senate Judiciary Committee" today (1/27/20). Does anyone from Tennessee know at what point in the process the public can (hopefully) have some influence?

After looking at the summary of the legislation, it's actually MORE infringing than Connecticut's law. In Connecticut, only LE can petition the court. In the proposed Tennessee legislation, family members, household members, intimate partners and LE can petition the court.

I wanna FIGHT this...but how?

You could start by contacting your local NRA affiliate and asking them to get involved, lead another rally on the capitol doorsteps just like VA did. Raise hell.

Exactly....and try to make sure it dies in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Hammer your legislators with calls, letters, emails, personal visits, and get as many others that feel as you do to do the same.

Plus the ideas already given. Squeaky wheel is how it works.

As someone who lives in TN and has gotten the law changed, through my legislator, I'll give you an answer. Understand this. Calling your legislator or writing an e-mail is fine to add emphasis, but if you want your legislator to know you are serious, you have to write an old-fashioned snail mail type of letter or show up in person at their office. If enough people do that, they get the message. They know that people who take the time to actually do those things are the ones who also show up to vote, organize support or opposition and will not be ignored. In effect, they are the "squeaky wheel" that gets the grease.

'Tennessee Stands United' on FB is organizing counties to be sanctuaries. I think that's where the greatest work has been coming from.
