A few days ago I received a call from my LGS about a couple of things that had just walked into the store. They know what I like and have standing orders to alert me when opportunities arise. My choice was between this, nearly mint Police Positive .38 Special, or a well worn 1903 hammerless in .380acp. If the 1903 had been as nice as the PP I'd have snapped it up as well, but it was rather tired.

I have a similar one from the 1920's in .32-20. It's fantastic.

I also have a 1908 .380 . Mine's pretty clean so I understand your holding out for a nicer one. They are great too. I understand the Colt Lightnings had issues, but overall it's hard to go wrong with early Colts.

They made some really nice stuff. Not cheap now, or back then either. That's why H&R , Iver Johnson and other similar brands did such a brisk business.
