Glock G45's are on the way so you can add me to the list of Glocks on duty 1911's off. However I did just pick up a Glock 48 and 43 and they have been getting the nod for carry lately.

This is an old thread, but am happy to keep it going.

I posted in 2014 that I was forced to carry Tupperware on-duty, but carried a 1911 or BHP off-duty. I retired in 2018, and work as a Reserve Deputy, carrying one of four 1911s (stainless Colt/Gunsite Custom Carry, stainless Wilson Protector, Baer TRS, and Nighthawk GRP) as an SRO in my local high school. Off-duty it is still a Wilson CQB Compact or .40cal Gunsite/BHP). All 1911s are .45ACP.

Work gave me my G21 w/ no mags, so it has been thrown into the back of a safe until someone wants to borrow it to use as a Jello mold.

If it's gonna be so ill abused, I'll rescue that poor ol' G21 .

It can sit next to mine in the safe with no threat of jello.

I've been retired for several years now. I've never worked with an agency that issued firearms, we all provided our own. I never carried Glock on duty (My duty pistol since 1984 has been a Beretta 92) but a couple years ago I bought a Glock 23c at an auction. It came with a 357SIG barrel also, and I started carrying it most of the time. I also bought a Ruger SR1911 LW Commander a few years after I retired and I'll carry it off and on too. I like the flat nature of the 1911. Depending on weather conditions and manner of dress, I will select the one that I can hide the best.

My last agency before I retired mandated Glock 22. Off duty I carried one of my 1911s. After retirement, an old friend of mine became Chief deputy at another county. I became a reserve there. He asked do you have a duty pistol. Yes sir I told him. I carried a Dan Wesson Specialist for a while. The an Ed Brown Special Forces with a rail. I am now carrying a Springfield Long Beach Operator. After Parkland, I went back full time as a School Resource Deputy.

I carried a Glock 22 for years. I bought it when I retired in 2005. I never liked it. My go to gun is a 1911, or Browning High Power.

I did for over 10 years until my agency finally relented and allowed us an option for duty pistols. It did require extra training but I felt it was worth it. Now all is right with the world and a Colt Government rides in my duty holster. Off duty is either a Colt Commander or a Kimber Aluminum Compact.
