Well Rod, I disagree. It doesn't have to be a 2A rally to carry rifles. 2A was all about having a check against a corrupt Gov't, not whether the Colonists could possess weapons. They already could. By possessing weapons we had/have the ability to pressure an unfair Gov't, just like what's happening in Michigan.
And threats don't have to be necessarily idle threats. Missiles pointed at Russia from all over Europe send a clear signal/threat to Russia that severe punishment will result if prompted. A US aircraft carrier loaded for bear is another threat when it sails off the coast of some errant foreign power.
So if in your opinion carrying rifles to a rally protesting the state ordered shutdown of business in Michigan isn't a good time to carry rifles, then you really don't support the same interpretation of the constitution that I support. I'm not saying my opinion is right, it's just my opinion. As I stated in my previous post, there are many on the Forum who feel like you do. Your version of conservative views are not my version.
PS. You were not the Moderator I was referring to.
We all know Rod is a staunch supporter of the 2A and definitely on the right team. I have had plenty of discussions with several folks that look at the Michigan thing as a “situational” dilemma in which dealing with the dingbat requires child psychology and due process, instead of brute force. We agree to disagree, but those folks that I had discussions with were anything but Liberals. This post really made a statement though. Our military and those of other countries have done exactly the same thing as in Michigan, just on a different level. People have a tendency to change their tune a bit when you park a couple dozen ballistic missiles off their coast. If that nut up there tries to retaliate and push the date back, she should be responsible for the carnage that may ensue.
She is boldly calling the demonstrators racist. Stay tuned for this one......
Obviously, by this point, no one is going to change their mind, but I agree with Brad and SC, there is absolutely no reason for a 2A protest and a lock-down protest to be mutually exclusive. They are both related to Freedom!...
I have no problem if a person doesn't want to open carry, that is their business, but if is legal in a given state there is no reason to disparage those who do it legally.
Moreover, I find the comments (by some) relative to our fellow gun owners look's or demeanor, against these kids who had the nads to protest, childish and ignorant.
And finally, this entire narrative about these kids posing a threat to the politicians or other citizens is a derivative of the insane Lefty position that "Guns are (always) bad". I am not surprised at the lefty, I am surprised at about the 40% here who have supported this line of thinking.
Bottom Line: This is the perfect time to connect the dots btwn all kinds of freedom's the Lefty wants to (and is doing now) squash and gun-rights. People of all political view are marching against the lock-down, it is a reasonable assumption that many will look at supporting 2A also in a new light and a very positive way. These Kids helped people on the fence connect the dots. Kudos!
I’m in Michigan & all this hits the local news. The next day Whitmer called for changing the law to not allow guns in the capital anymore. The republican legislature didn’t go for it. Now she says that these racist demonstrations better stop or she will extend the lockdown longer. She claims the demonstrators are spreading the virus! There was a hearing today to overturn the extension but most likely won’t be successful. It will be in the Michigan Supreme Court next week.
Well now, isn’t that just perfect! Now, they are racist virus carriers and she will penalize the entire population because of her narrow view. Once it gets to the Supreme Court, someone should call for her head. A few well placed PSA’s would get the public to ask for her removal. Any action past that is already at her own making.
Americans see the need for their Second Amendment:
Notice March 2020 NICs background checks increased about 80% relative to March 2019. March 2020, 3.7 million checks of which estimated 2.4 million for gun purchases. More than one gun could be on the NICs check for purchase. Also many states concealed carry permit satisfy the Brady law so no background check needed.
Democrats and other gun controllers attempt to spin anything that they can.
It is legal in Michigan then if some exercise their right, go ahead. Fine with me.
Ultimately, although we may have periodic disagreements, even sharp disagreements, those of us who believe very strongly in 2A rights must stick together.
The beliefs that unite us are more powerful and of far greater long-term significance than the more detailed opinions that may occasionally divide us.

Although I'm not the greatest fan of visibly armed, combat-attired individuals showing up at state capitols, I nonetheless have far more in common with them than with the leftists. No question which side I would choose to stand with.
Whitmer lied in the debate when questioned about raising our gas tax. She said that she wouldn’t but as soon as she got in she tried to get a 45 cent increase. Thankfully the republican legislature denied that. Then she decided that not just minors weren’t going to be allowed to vape but adults weren’t going to be allowed to vape either by her executive order. That was overturned in a couple of weeks. She ran on fix the dam roads. The republican legislature came up with the money but she vetoed it because she didn’t come up with it. So now she finally got her way no matter how senseless it was & doesn’t want to let go. Anything for power.
Over the past few days I have been doing much soul-searching. I *was* brought up with the thought that you don't brandish a weapon unless you wish to use it.
That said, these folks in MI were not brandishing -- ie, waving them around. They were slung, or holstered. Some people are not used to open carry and will interpret the legal open presence of a firearm as a threat, or a provocation, or what have you.
This country is at a crossroads this year. That tar-and-feather spirit is back, and in force.
I spoke with a MI friend of mine last night, lives not too far from Ann Arbor. He tells me the unemployment rate in MI is 40%.
I stand with the people that legally open-carried that day. Had I been a Michigander under those circumstances I would have joined them, carrying my own.
I do think the circumstances merited that response. Others have disagreed, myself included. But after much thought, I have come around to seeing it from their point of view.
We, the US, are very different than the rest of the world, due to the circumstances of our "birth." The view point of the rest of the world has been imported and forced into too many Americans. Those points of view do not allow for the people to rise against their government when tyranny takes over. Ours does. The rest of the world, and too many in the US, do not see it that way.
That demonstration showed a kind of Patriotism that for too long has been dormant. Even when I disagreed with it I found it strangely inspiring, now I understand why -- it's the Spirit of '76.
How can anyone believe that taking away so many people's right to work and earn a living in the USA is not an attack on rights!
What I can say about this thread it has exposed a lot of hypocrisy concerning "our" neck of the woods in the gun-community...Yes, they are likely only 30% here, but 30% too much, IMO.
If scared stay home, but don't stop others from doing their thing...
We are suing to get our outdoor ranges open in NJ, how the heck is 2A infringement any different than infringing on a person's ability to feed their family!
And btw, I am cautious and buying all my food on line right now (over 60 and on chemo). But I will go to the range when it is open. That is America, freedom of choice, thank God! Do your own risk assessment and Go for it! But my goodness, what makes people think their choices should apply to everyone else.
Well said Old Grey Hare. I hope that many of your words resonate with everyone debating this issue. To reiterate, if I may... 2A, the Bill of Rights, and the rest of the Constitution were written as a reaction to the long train of abuses committed by a corrupt and overbearing Gov't that had to be overthrown. What's happening in Michigan and to a lesser extent in other states is the same thing on a smaller scale. Gretchen has ignored and dismissed the will of the people and imposed her own version of Democratic martial law.
Carrying rifles into Michigan's statehouse says that we the people are fed up with this corrupt and unilateral shutdown preventing American citizens from pursuing life, liberty and happiness. Not being allowed to work and provide for your family is an essential universal right. The fact that a corrupt and scheming Governor is more than willing to hurt her own citizens to further her own career and derail the Republican President's reelection chances is unconscionable.
The Michigan rally is not about 2A. Many Forum respondents mentioned that they thought that only a 2A rally would merit carrying guns. Gents, this is way more than about just 2A. This rally is why 2A was written into the US Constitution in the first place. We as Americans have the legal right to bear arms to pressure/threaten/warn/influence a corrupt and overbearing Government. The Framers felt that having that check on a corrupt Gov't was essential. If you feel that the people who were carrying guns into the statehouse were portraying a bad image for gun ownership, then you're missing the bigger picture.

There is a Silver-lining here with all this CV9-Fascism...Many people who haven't been self-aware enough to see how drastically rights in this country are under assault, now are...I'm very impressed with the wide-spread protests by people of all persuasions...This should translate into additional votes for POTUS in November.
Let’s hope so!
You are right, this is an eye opener for all of those people that have been infringed upon, especially in places like Michigan. When the results there are determined to be disastrous compared to other states that have loosened the reigns, they will want Gretchen’s head on a pike!
By the time this is all over,
say around 2025.
There is going to be a least one,
and perhaps three MAJOR show trials for treason,
or something akin.
And at least one and maybe up to three top players are going to go the distance,
and end up in a prison cell.
One from the Silicon Valley.
One from Wall Street.
One from Washington.
And all you need to do is put ONE in prison,
and the rest'll shape up like it's day one, week one, of bootcamp.
"Yes sir!
No sir!
Anything you say sir!".
Then THEY can go back to their blogs and mutter about how unfair it all is.
And this trial'll make OJ look like a Small Claims Court dispute,
over a fender bender.
That makes sense, but what if one of the teams keeps moving to the left? Then the middle ground keeps moving to the left. Both teams have to be rational, reasonable, and forthright. But that doesn't seem to be to be the case with one of the teams right now.
Then, society is doomed to be what these generations will have made it. The “American Way” will become a sterile, uninventive group of followers. Everyone will dress the same, will watch the one government show that is aired from 6-7 and not be permitted outside after dark. Hmmm, where have we seen that before......
Anyone who doesn't support President Trump and can't appreciate what he's done to protect our gun rights should leave this Forum and join some Facebook chat group where you all can talk about how much you love Joe Biden, the Clintons, Chuck and Nancy, and the rest of the freaking lying, cheating, conniving Democrats.
But he was handed the most vile corrupted divisive mess,
any president has ever been handed.
And he has virtually,
single handedly brought this country back from almost collapsing under the weight of all the asinine - feel good - social programs that were put forward by the prior administration.
The national debt went from 55% of the GDP to 105% of the GDP in the 16 years prior to Trump's inauguation.
He saw this as an emergency because it was an emergency.
Some of that was war, but a good portion of that was this creeping socialism.
In my estimation COVID-19 is the flu,
and it has been touted to be a pandemic in an elaborate and absurd play to disrupt the 2020 election.
Trump is a financial genius,
and a true Patriot.
If he's played along with the COVID nonsense,
it's because he has to, in order to have the support of the people.
What about the Clintons? Talk about corrupt. The two biggest liars on the planet. Hillary was fired from her first job as prosecutor after Law School because the States Attorney later testified that he couldn't believe a word she said. What about Whitewater, the Clinton's real estate deal? People and witnesses murdered and Hillary and Bill somehow escaping prosecution. Crazy investment gains independent of the stock market, voter fraud, Bill's 60 documented trips to underage virgin island, and Hillary's thousands of erased emails. The Clintons make Al Capone look like a choir boy.
Nancy has about a million skeletons in her closet and an extended family that has ruled California for over 100 years, with countless allegations throughout that period. How about Joe Biden expelled from Law School for cheating. How about his son making millions in businesses he's never run or even heard of from insider information, ie. his Dad? Only a Democrat would bring up some unsubstantiated allegations about President Trump when the Democrats have been repeatedly proven to be the biggest liars and cheaters in existence.
Well don't look at me. I won't defend them. I don't even like them. But the main point is I don't have enough info and just don't care enough to defend them either way. Just because I don't like Trump does not mean I like the Clintons. I know, I know that's a foreign concept for Trumpers.
Thing is no matter who it is if they have faults that they have faults or in this case this guy isn't everything some people try to make him out to be so wake up and smell the roses.
The guy seriously brought up ingesting disinfectants and getting a suntan as a potential preventive measure for this thing. Pretty hard to take anyone who does that seriously except for the fact some think he is some kind of savior which on its own is pretty serious although rather scary considering.
Harry I think it helped to wake up a few more people. All across the country people are starting to realize that some of the Governors are exceeding their power and many people are starting to stand up for their rights and their livelihood.
You can walk on wet sand but it is illegal to walk on dry sand. Now that is some ass backward thinking right there how do you get to the wet sand? Fly.
I do too, I don’t think many people in our country (especially the young) realized that they can have a say outside the ballot box. We are not Communist China. I also think that those here who thought it was a “Clown Show”, can’t understand, many of them have been institutionalized by the rulers of their blue states. I think it might have opened the eyes of many in the socialists leadership.
Hey, no worries he's a genius or at least that is what he says and for some reason he feels the need to say it over and over again.
