Cool Mirror Polished S&W Model 629 .44 Magnum (a.k.a If Dirty Harry Were A Pimp)

Dirty Harry's iconic .44 magnum revolver was a Smith & Wesson Model 29. This here is the stainless version, the Model 629, which I polished recently for a customer in northern Florida.

With most, but not all, S&W revolvers (especially newer models), you know it's a stainless gun if the model number begins with a 6. The 629, 686, 66, and 60 are all stainless guns. If you see a model 29, 586, or 19 that looks like steel, you know it's actually a nickel plated carbon steel gun if the model number doesn't start with a 6.

With S&W pistols, though again not always, stainless guns usually have a model number that ends with a 6. The 4566, 1006, and 5906 are all stainless guns.

There are exceptions to both of these "rules," but they generally hold true and can usually give you some insight into a gun if you don't have the ability to research it on the spot.

Sometimes the site I use to host the photos craps out and the photos aren't visible for a few minutes. Everything seems to be fine now, though. Let me know if you still can't see them on your end.
