Many decades ago I picked up a Yugo m98 8 mm Mauser in excellent condition for $79. I found out later it’s a captured German 98 k Mauser with the German markings removed. I wanted a cheap rifle I could hunt in the rain with but with its history it means too much. We still can find these Yugo 98 k for affordable prices.

I picked up a German 98 k 8 mm that the barrel was shot out for $20. A like new barrel at numrich was $37. By the time I was done I was under $125 with mounts, scope, sling.

A few years ago, there was a boatload of Soviet capture rifles dumped on the market at pretty good prices. I have a bunch of Mauser 98s, but none in historical trim, so I bought one. Most, but not all, of the Nazi markings are defaced, and the bottom metal is force matched. Still, it is a fine looking gun and it fills the hole in my historical collection.
