I purchased this video and was pleased with the info.
I was as well. I have there carbine DVD's 1 and 2 and for the heck of it I bought Aerial Platform Operations. Great stuff and I love the drills sections where they go over everything in detail for you to follow. These are much better than the Thunder ranch video and all others I've seen.
For other defensive videos, I have all 5 of the Emerson Edged Weapons series and the Karambit videos. These are amazing.
I also have the 6 DVD set from Alain Cohen - Krav Maga - The Israeli Method of Close-Quaters Combat. These are also amazing.
Now, I must add that I've been studying Krav Maga for 4 years now and Emerson's Knife fighting style for 5 years. I've been going to at least one advanced handgun and one advanced carbine class a year, but usually more.
My point is that these videos are great, but the DO NOT replace a class. My view on it is to get to as many classes as possible, preferably those that teach similar styles, then watch the videos when not attending classes. you'll pick up all kinds of the things that you missed before. Especially if the have a drills disc as well.
There's nothing wrong with attending different classes with different styles, but for me, i had to choose what I thought was better for me. For example, Chris and Travis and Magpul get you to put the gun low and inside tight. They have you push your shoulders forward and square up with your support hand far out on the rail with a very high grip on it.
Clint Smith on the other hand has you bring the gun up high to your check with your body bladed. your support hand elbow is bent a good bit and your elbows are winged out. You're standing straight up and down with your feet spread shoulder width. With the Magpul guys your far forward, very aggressive. The styles are very different. The more aggressive style works for me.
Both of these (along with Valhalla, Gunsite Shootrite, Tiger Valley, etc.) are great and both should be attended before you decide what ultimately is right for YOU. Use the videos for refreshers and watch them over and over. You'll improve a lot from the videos, but even more from the classes.
