Saw this one at a new LGS nearby, for a crazy low price. Seemed too good to be true. They let me field strip & function check, and all seemed well other than being filthy internally. Figured for the price, I could replace most of the internals & the total would still not be bad for a full size 9mm 1911.
Stripped it to the frame & scrubbed it, have never seen a gun quite this dirty. Extractor channel was completely PACKED with carbon, breech face & ramp were pretty bad too. Not the kind of dirty you get from a couple boxes, even with the cheapest dirtiest ammo. Oddly, the bore was pretty clean. Will never know for sure, but suspect it was traded in for next to nothing, with the previous owner just wanting to unload it since it "didn't work any more".
Took her out for a spin, 220 rounds without a malfunction. One box of Gold Dots, the rest FMJ (Magtech, Blazer, S&B).
Despite the success, going to replace the recoil & firing pin springs soon... I'm sure they're the originals. Possibly add a FO front sight.
This pistol is very easy to shoot well. Attached photo is 50 rounds of S&B 124 grain. At 8 yards, not setting any new records, but still inspires confidence.

Nice! I have one quite similar, same caliber only target version. It's my favorite of all of the 1911 pistols that I have owned.

Good buy...

There is a dingle berry here that will buy new guns, shoot them until they are unreliable, and then trade them in for a new gun. No cleaning involved.

That's gotta get expensive FAST!

Read about these kind of "steals" all the time, but it's a first for me. The used guns that catch my eye are usually way overpriced, with little savings over buying the same thing new.

I never catch deals like that. Some of my notable deals include:

Suppressor ready p07 with compensator for $350

Glock 30 with 7 mags for $400

New vp9sk with crimson trace for $475

Around this time of year, you can find different retailers online (palmetto state armory comes to mind) "dumping" their Kimber 1911 inventory. While $399 is a really solid price The custom II (and many of the variants which are based on the custom II) for $599.

Shop probably gave the previous owner sub $200.
