Seriously, though. Good point. This is a thread where sending a PM to the OP might be most prudent while ammo is in very low supply, and very high demand.

It is very tough to beat this sale price on 230 gr. Gold Dot 45 ACP:

http://palmettostatearmory.com/speer...rds-53966.html

And this for 9mm Gold Dots:

http://palmettostatearmory.com/speer...rds-53614.html

Note that those prices are for 50 round boxes...

that's impressive on the gold dots.. I usually use 230 grain Golden Sabers because they feed like butter in my guns, but I may have to grab some more boxes of the gold dots as that's the same price as my golden sabers!

Yep. Came across that last night. Juggled, guessed, hesitated, then said the heck with it and ordered 5 boxes.

PSA often runs deals on Speer GD .223. The 55 and 64 grain are always $9.99/20, but they will have buy 10 or more and get free shipping. I think the 75 grain, usually $14.99 is currently on sale at $9.99. Good deals regardless for .223 Gold Dot.

Underwood Ammo. Period. For SD. The Xtreme Defense round has the most energy and fantastic velocity with a tip that looks like a drill bit. Complete beast. 25 bucks per box of 20. Only for defense. Can't beat it. Animal defense I'm not sure about at all. But yeah probably Buffalo Bore for animal defense. I use their JHPs and Bonded JHPs all the time. FMJs bother me because of all the stories I heard of ricochet injury. I do have to rent them often at the ranges I go to but I don't have to everywhere I practice. Heavy XTP JHPs are not bad for defense either. Much cheaper. Then there's 37 dollar box of 20 Max Expansion SD ammo plus Xtreme Penetrator ammo. Most calibers are available with these types of ammo at underwood.com. Just send it to your local store. try it, save a magazine dedicated to SD and that's my opinion on premium. You want to be absolutely safe. Underwood.

Obviously Doubletap and Gold dots are good too. Nothing is like that drill bit defender ammo I saved for my .45 acp 1911. extra magazine set aside after running some through. Not even +P. Safe to use in any 1911 I believe. Boutique ammo is worth it if it's lead free or mostly lead free because some ammo has lead underneath the nickel or copper tip.hollow or not. And whatever that Xtreme Defense ammo is, it's not quite hollow point but it's a drill monster. 2x your usual PWC. There's a money back guarantee and I'm sure it's like the regular ammo of theirs with regards to safety, cleanliness, reliability and even more controllability (less recoil). Apparently they have less of a muzzle flash too. Never heard or experienced anything bad when it comes to Underwood. Grizzly makes a bullet with the best ballistics on paper for the .357 sig shooter. But I forget if it's JHP XTP (still good for SD) or Hollow. Regardless, midwayusa.com is my usual site that has sales on about all that's available on the market including Buffalo Bore and Underwood.

www.SGammo.com is my go to source for HST, Gold Dot and Ranger. I also get the lions share of my practice ammo from them in non 9mm calibers. Walmart is hard to beat around here on WWB and Tula.

Targetsportsusa.com is fantastic .. their bulk prices are about as low as you'll find and they do free shipping on bulk orders which beats SGAmmo on most things. SGammo is my second favorite.

Get on the mailing list for as many of these places as you can , many have weekly specials or special purchases , or free shipping type sales.

PSA has really good sales on ammo quite often, so they are worth following.

Underwood Ammo on occasion will have free shipping on their products, and many times you only need buy a couple of boxes to get the free shipping
