Slide not staying open.

Recently bought a rock island 1911 gi. Went to shoot it for the first time today. Out of 10 times of running the magazine empty the slide didn't stay open 3 or 4 times. Anyone had any issues with this?

Yes, I've had the same problem with several different magazines.
Some work fine, others not so much...I think it's the slide stop
and e-mailed customer service with the problem, but all they want
to do is sell me there mags. I told them I thought it was the slide
stop, but I guess it fell on deaf ears...

I was thinking it might be a magazine issue as well but I don't know. I'm going to email customer service. They can't tell me it's a magazine issue unless they plan on sending me a new one because it's brand new.

Just had a quick chat with them. Told me to fill out a warranty claim online and they would contact me. They did say about a break in period and I said I understand but I don't think any breaking in would fix my issue.

Yea, I got the same line...Did you clean it, does it work with our magazine
etc..... It should work with most mags, unless the mag springs are weak.
I'm just going to order a new slide stop from some other company as I've
heard a lot of bad reports of bad stops.

Forgive me for my ignorance this is my first 1911, would the slide stop be this piece? I want to get the extended one anyway.

Yeah, RIA has known issues with not locking open after the last round fired. I bought Kimpro and Wilson mags. and no more problems. The "correct" fix is a top quality slide stop.

Evolution Gun Works. With some followers you can very slightly bend the engagement tab of the follower and make it reach the stop lug. If that is not possible then you need a slide stop with a longer lug. Be aware that extended slide stops have more mass and can bounce with the recoil and lock the slide back with rounds remaining in the magazine. Also it's too easy for a thumb to get under it and trip it while shooting rapidly. A shallow dimple cut on the slide stop where the plunger presses on it in the down position can help hold it down. Just don't cut the dimple too deep or it will never lock open. Personally I would just learn to use a standard slide stop and trip it with your left thumb. Almost no one can reach a slide stop without having to twist the gun in their hand and then re-establishing their grip (which isn't really a big deal unless you're shooting on the clock).
