What do you consider the top three threats?

The North Korea thread did get me thinking. What are the top three, most likely threats you think would put us into a situation where the survival preps, skills, and major change in lifestyle, would kick in?

Maybe even break things down into a short term, with rule of law, but things are disrupted and a little hairy set AND a stuff has hit the fan and things are belly up and way out of hand, set of situations.

Heck, I have to think on it a little. I think natural disasters and power grid related situations are the most likely. Still thinking about it more though.

So what are y'alls take on the top threats to life as we know it.

in America specifically

short term;
Natural disasters like earthquakes, wind, snow, water, fire.

long term;
world financial collapse on a scale greater than the Great Depression of '29

I could name more than three.

(1) The people on Capitol hill.
(2) Financial meltdown.
(3) Nuclear war.

For major disruption in no particular order I would have to go with:

Socialist becoming more violent and direct in their drive to destroy the Constitutional Republic of the United States of America. Also more aggressive indirect actions that have the same cumulative effect.

A massive, financial meltdown or cyberattack that makes havoc of the financial markets for more than a few days. This includes all the fallout and building ripple effect as it starts to impact daily living for a growing number of the population.

A growing clash between different ideologies or ethnicities. It could be haves and have nots, racial, or simply the conservative side against the socialist/far left regress, I mean progressives.

For the more localized or short term, not the end of life as we know it, but bothersome nonetheless. The more likely situations to deal with:

Natural disaster. Probably the most likely of short term events to deal with.

Industrial disaster. Things like train derailments or chemical spills that require the evacuation of highly populated areas for length of time come to mind. Such as the chlorine spill in San Antonio some years back from a train derailment. Only maybe a bit longer and bit more widespread.

I would put major disruption of the power grid and supply system in both sections.

Here in the greater Los Angeles area, our last big civil chaos was from the Rodney King beating trial of the LEOs. During that event, my neighbors asked to borrow guns. I loaned half a dozen or so. I'd have to go with something like that as the more probable issue happening here again. The recent protests where people are demanding illegals not be deported, etc., is potentially a powderkeg.

Hmm...there seems to be some unity here about liberals being the number one threat!

Liberalism and the societal collapses and conflicts those policies will incite
Terrorist attack
Natural Disaster (weather, meteor, Yosemite volcano, etc.)

I actually debated on whether to put financial meltdown ahead of natural disaster, and still am not sure if it shouldn't be number three.

In the states where UBC's are the law, that might land you afoul of "The Law".

One of the reasons I'm still accumulating powder, primers, bullets, ammo and firearms is those "Protests" that are ill-disguised rioting, looting and aggravated arson.

The problem with an EMP, whether naturally occurring or deliberate, is that there is an absolute, finite amount of energy that can reach the surface from an orbital POO, such as a satellite or the sun. Most electronics and systems have some degree of shielding built in. The energy also dissipates rapidly, with lessor effects the farther from center mass one gets- like light diffusing from a cheap flashlight, its range and cone is limited. What it WOULD destroy is other satellites within its scope...

Yes it would cause damage and destruction. It would also be limited in scope and duration, like a large scale, regional natural disaster... we won't revert to the stone age.

- and, with the current CinC, the DPRK would cease to exist in short order if tbey did such a thing. Baby Kim is a brutal dictator, but most of what he does is posturing to show his own people how tough he is- no differnent than his father or grandfather... it doesn't serve his interests to directly attack the US.

Now that's just WRONG.

Cheap Scotch is what you pour for relatives you only tolerate.

The 18 year old Glenlivet is what you pour for good friends, favored family, and at 2:30 am on November 9th as you ring the old farm bell for as long as your ears can stand it and you see the neighbors lights coming on, giggling "Ding-Dong The Witch Is Dead" and then you go in and pop the cork on a fresh bottle and drink a couple of Old Fashioned Glasses of the Glenlivet in CELEBRATION!
