Kimber Aegis Custom (OI) issue

I just purchased a Kimber Aegis Custom with the Vortex Venom installed at the factory. First three shots were great then the issues started. First three shots were pretty close to center using the red dot (generally aligned with the fixes sights). Then on the fourth shot the red dot on the Vortex moved (on its own) to the point where there was no longer enough adjustment to get the shot even on the target, about 7 inches low at 10 yards.

OK, so Vortex will fix it. I'll just shoot it with the suppressor height sights for now. Three magazines later and I get slide lock on each shot. OK magazine issue?? Nope, same issue using Kimber factory, Wilson Combat and Chip McCormick mags.

64 shots in total and the gun is headed back to Yonkers.

Other than that, it is a really nice gun.

I'll update when it comes back.

What ammo were you using?
Had you cleaned the gun prior to taking it to the range?

"64 shots in total and the gun is headed back to Yonkers."

I bet he's not lying.

You're the only one who's assuming he's lying. Better go back to your cave or troll somewhere else.

At the risk of offending malmon again, I'll never understand throw-away statements like that. And I don't care who the maker is. Probably be great once it's sorted out. Right now, it's a paper weight.

Back in the 30's, Townsend Whelen said that only accurate guns are interesting. I'd have to say that the the new millennium equivalent is that only functioning guns are "really nice."

Good luck, kristensdaddy.

I can only comment on the Vortex, I bought a gun that came with one, when I tried to adjust the windage the dot would go out half range. I sent it back and bought another in the mean time, it wouldn't adjust far enough to get the elevation right, went back too, haven't used them since I got them back but consider them to be junk.

Yes, I cleaned and oiled the gun prior to shooting it.

I was shooting Federal American Eagle 230 Gr JPH. I sent them the empty box.

I have three other Kimbers, all three are Ultra IIs. All three have been flawless. I have a Sig Super Target and a Springfield Loaded Target and they work fine as well. This is the first 1911 that has had an issue.

I'm sure they will fix it but this is a gun forum so I just posted what happened so others can make decisions on gun purchases based on first hand accounts.

Turns out the Kimber Aegis Custom (OI) has a recall on it. Apparently the optics mount is insufficient to keep the Vortex Venom attached. Since mine was already in the shop as mentioned above, they are going to repair mine first. This recall includes the Aegis and the even newer KHX.

Wonder what I am going to get for my troubles.
