Full Size 1911 in a Commander Holster?

I had several Commander Length 1911's... i had Paul @ Warbird make me a really nice holster that fit them all nicely after some stretching and break-in. Unfortunately while i was in the hospital having cancer surgery, someone broke in to my home and stole my gun safe and all my 1911's. Insurance paid 15% of the guns values and that was only for the ones i had receipts for....anyway, sorry, i got off topic...I had not been able to afford another 1911 since that happened, but, recently i did some work for a gentleman who gave me a Full Size RUGER SR1911 as part of the payment. It fits really nicely in my Commander length holster but it does stick out by 5/8". Does anybody see an issue with this? I really cant afford to buy another holster at $115 to $150 and Paul did such a nice job with this one that i would surely like to use it.

The Yaqui Slide holster has been popular with some for years and it basically only covers the trigger. As long as your front site doesn't catch on your draw stroke it should work okay. You collect more dirt and crud in the barrel and get it banged up on things but how much angst that will cause is personal and only you will know.

Sorry about your loss.

Same issues as using a Yaqui Slide or other rigs that expose the muzzle. Easier to pickup visually as a gun. Shiny. Mostly push back sitting down as a security issue but also mildly more exposure to picking up debris or scrapes and scratches. Then too reblocking the holster may mean the original shorter pistol is loose forever after. I suggest not worrying about it while staying cautious about the pistol being pushed out of the holster.

I see no problem wity the nice holster you show. The only problem could be the front sight hanging up on the toe of the holster on the draw. This can happen with the Yaqui slide too. I like the Yaqui slide, with a ramp front sight it's a dream.
Sorry for your cancer & burglary loss.
Look at Simply Rugged they have a nice pancake holster the Cuda less than $100.

I thought i should check on your concern.....Luckily Paul @ WarBird did such a nice job with the holster that is is clearanced perfectly and the gun site doesnt hang up upon removal...i tried pulling it in such a way that it would hang up and i still cant get it to do it. Good thought ...glad you mentioned it.

Gents, NewColtGuy1966 is a lefty. I had a right-handed holster I was going to send him, but he needs a left-handed holster.
