Hello from DC!

A quick hello to everyone here. My first 1911 arrives on Tuesday, and I'm excited to "join the club" as it were.

I've tried a few at the range and it is one of those guns that "just worked" for me. So I've taken the plunge.

I'm sure questions will follow - but for now I'm excited to run a 1911.

Thanks, guys!

Squirrels: despite the name I'm actually in Alexandria. Would love to know your choice of shooting range in the area

I try.

The best part of my job in this (strange!) world: it is the half-dozen 22-25 year old women in my office who have asked for trips to the firing range.

Welcome from another in Va. Sharpshooters in Lorton is my favorite and there's the NRA range in Fairfax. Those are the 2 closest to Alex.

Welcome! What kind of 1911 did you get?! I had a 1911 for YEARS but it mostly sat in my safe because my specific one wasn't the most reliable, but then I traded it for one that runs much better and I'm now considering using it as a CCW replacement. Once enough rounds go through it without hiccups of course.

Chris....I go to SharpShooters in Lorton. It's close by but haven't been for awhile.
Where in Alexandria are you. I'm in the Fort Hunt area.

Hi Bob,

Funny enough: I was just down at Sharpshooters on Sunday. I'm in North Alexandria - just off Bashford lane.

If you're ever up for a range trip (or going) - just let me know. I'd love to shoot and maybe grab a coffee (or something) afterward

Hi MKC -- the offer to Bob stands for you, too -- if you're ever down at Sharpshooters (or in Alex); I'd happily burn a few rounds and grab coffee (or something stronger)

Chris

I found a really good deal on a Dan Wesson A2. The older, parkerized version. It's not the fanciest 1911 out there, but I wanted an honest, good-shooting gun. Fingers crossed that's what I have found.

Anything with a FLGR is fluff, if JMB didn't put it on the 1911 you don't need it.
If you are going to collect, don't be 'drawn' to an example that is not original, nor correct. Instant gratification is more expensive than a good education.

Welcome from Alexandria, VA

Chris,
I'm in your area, too, in Kingstowne. I really prefer the NRA range due to its better lighting, more space behind the stalls, and superior ventilation. I'd be happy to make a range trip with you any time.

Enjoy your DW.
Phil G.

Hi Phil

I may take you up on that offer -- I've never been to the NRA range (though I've gone farther out, to Elite Shooting Sports).

So far I've been able to take the new pistol out of its case ... and that's all.

Can't wait to try it out.

I have officially been baptized a 1911 owner. Not only did I put 100 rounds through my Dan Wesson A2, but I also inadvertently shot the recoil spring plug across the room while field stripping it afterward.
