Talking Jewelry store owner shoots smash-and-grab gang, hits 2 of 4

Their little party ended almost as soon as they started.

The owner was watching through a one way mirror as four men enter the shop after one was buzzed in. He knew something was wrong because the first guy held the door open while three men who were waiting out of sight rushed in. They started smashing the jewelry cases and the owner opened fire right through the one way mirror. He hit two, but all four were arrested a while later.

BTW: It's Texas and you can use lethal force to stop a property crime unlike some other states.

Quote:
... four robbers masked with bandanas rushed the store and hammered away at the glass showcase.

What they didn't know was that Hayes was watching from the office, behind a one-way mirror.

"They were smashing the cases, but they stopped as soon as I started shooting," he said.

To bad he did not get all four of them.

But at least this story had a happy ending.

Time for the store owner to get himself a shotgun.

I would almost bet he has a shotgun stashed somewhere in the store. It's Texas. They don't call 911. They deal with it.

The robbers were probably from California, where you can rip off up to $1000.00 per person per day and get off with just a ticket if caught.

Well done. I especially like the shooting from behind one-way glass technique. Smart.

Good for the owner. That is a few less thugs out committing crimes. From the ages of them, it looks like school teens out on school break thinking they could stage a few robberies for fun and profit. Don't mess with Texas. They allow guns here.

Please plan your crime spree correctly.

The limit is under $950. Criminals have started carrying calculators with them!

Crime is a dangerous occupation, particularly in places like Texas where the intended victim is likely to fight back.

The store owner should give serious thought to replacing the front windows with glass that will stop his outgoing projectile. God forbid he tag someone in the parking lot by accident.

Folks interested should google Lance Thomas, a jeweler and pretty impressive gunfighter from the late 80s/early 90s

It is spiritually uplifting when the crooks get shot up by their intended victims.

But in the end who is the laughter really on, the person buying 10$ rings with a 500$ retail tag, or the criminals who try to rob that 10$ actual value ring, just to get killed by the store employees or the police?

Just think in the long term numbers here.

Steal that 1200 dollar diamond ring, go to jail for what a year..

Or try to steal that ring, and instead get gunned down by the store employees with their favorite .357 magnum.

Or get killed by the cops when you run at them post robbery with your own weapon swinging in the wind.

Especially when that over priced 1200$ ring is only going to get you 300$ at ANY pawn shop at BEST

JohnJoseph, you are in error. $950 is the upper limit for cite and release. Commercial shop lifters carry a small pocket calculator with them to ensure they don't go over the limit.
