CS responses to ILS, MS weight, & extractor questions

I recently sent some questions to SA customer service after picking up a new RO elite operator and wanted to share some of the info I got. Penne at SA stated they've been phasing out the ILS system since January 2016 though not all models have eliminated the ILS. A 1911 with a non-ILS system will have a 19# mainspring while a 1911 with an ILS system will have a 23# mainspring.

She also stated "all extractors are tuned to the individual pistol." I thought that was really nice to hear especially since my Colt came out of the box with a dropped-in extractor with no tension on it. My new RO elite's extractor had good tension on it and held a 230gr cartridge snug against the breachface at any angle I held the slide at.

I wonder if this is an indication that Springfield is making an effort to align itself with what customers might want (esp about the ILS system). I haven't been around the 1911 for long but I've also noticed that talk of two-piece barrels from Springfield has really faded - does anyone know if they're still getting used?

Anyway, figured some of y'all might wanna know this!

What caliber did you ask them about? ILS used to be 28lbs in 45acp guns and I used to replace all of mine with a regular MSH and 23lbs spring.

From what I remember, two piece barrels have not been used since late 90s or somewhere there. But I am sure searching this forum will get you more accurate information.

I had a 2008 manufactured parkerized mil spec that had a two piece barrel.
But in 2014 SA replaced it with the stainless one piece match barrel.

How would you know if your SA has the ILS? You can spot one on a Smith and Wesson revolver from half a mile away.

ILS is a thing of the passed 2016 on , Two piece barrels , you have to go to the , way
, way , back machine in the early 90's , and Made in Brazil is a thing of the passed .

Springfield has done a lot of in house cleaning and taking on work that used to get
sent out , so now pretty much after their last big expansion everything is being
handled by them in Geneseo, IL .

Now if they could Get SACS back on a Customer customizing track with machine
checkering , custom Koteing options , and custom smith packaging options . They
could become a 1911 power house like no other and second to none
