I have a Nighthawk 1911 that does not play well with Tripp mags. The slide would lock open with rounds left in the mag, so I tried Wilson Combat mags and it still does the same thing but not as often as Tripps. With the factory magazines, the gun functions like it should.
The rest of my 1911's (Wilson, dan wesson, les baer, kimber, sig, sa) works well with Tripp magazines.

I shot 48 rounds thru one of my 5" Wilsons yesterday using the Tripp mags and had three F2F where the slide locked back prematurely. I have not had this problem w/ any of my six 1911s and any of my other 22-mags.

The springs in the three Tripps are definitely weaker than my other mags. The 8th round in each of them seats easily compared to the others, and the mags seat much easier in the guns than other mags. I did some Internet reading last night, and find that one reason this could be happening is that due to the weak springs, the round at the top moves from side-to-side and hits the slide stop, which causes it to move up and lock.

I will be trying the mags w/ another Wilson next week and possibly a Baer. If the problem persists, the mags go to the training-only pile and will not be used on-duty.

I have emailed Tripp explaining the problem and await a reply next week.

I don't know if your Tripp mag springs are weaker, they may be, but one reason the Tripp's allow the 8 round to load easier, and for the full mag to seat easier with the slide forward, would be the longer tube Tripp uses.

The Tripp tubes are longer than Wilson's 47D's, and CMC PowerMags.

I am wondering if the mags might have accidentally been installed w/ springs meant for 7-rounders.

Might be worth trying to get some ‘new’ springs if you’re thinking of giving them another go.

Well, I tried the mags w/ a Baer TRS today, and had no stoppages w/ 36-rounds fired. Next week I will be trying another Wilson and a Colt.
