Israeli Hi Power Serial#

How do you determine the year of a five digit surplus Hi Power? It looks to be a MKIII serial# 07309

The Serial number on a surplus Hi Power may be based upon a requested contract number sequence.

Beyond the serial number you can look for various proof marks on frame , the slide (many time on the firing pin block) and on the barrel for controller of Proof codes (more of a range, single letter under an asterisk) and also FN production date marks. Production date marks are typically a single digit within closed or partially opened boxes/shapes.

If you have a Mk III the serial number would fall into the standard sequences, photos of your pistol will tell the story. Many older Israeli pistols were refitted with later slides as part of a continuous repair program. The serial you indicate would probably fall into the fifties for a frame...FN would restart serial numbers for special orders but to my knowledge Israel took anything available.

Looking at the frame serial stamp , does it have a prefix number 245 and then 2 letters preceding the 07309 ?
For example a HP made in 1994 would read 245NW07309 .

the 245 is for civilian issue and NW is the year 1994, if it had PW it would be 1984 and then the sequential number.

My Israeli import 1990's gun has the 245 prefix .

I was hoping the op would take another look for prefix numbers/letters .

Without photos everything is a guess, with the numbers listed I still think he has an older pistol and if Mk III sights probably a slide replacement.
