1911froum censorship.

Why are posts being censored out? Posted to a sub forum and it just gets removed, w/o explanation, no rules broken or anything? Has this site become super censored like so many others?

I don't know about the others, but I deleted this one (and locked the thread) because it revived a 4 year old thread, you can read the rules about "necro-posts".

I don’t really care but since it was brought up, I don’t see the “necro-posts” mentioned in the rules. Why not just do a date dump when the “necro” clock runs out. Everyone knows history is no longer relative.

If I may politely say,
This is the only site I’m on that would rather have me start a new thread instead of bumping one that may be a bit ‘aged’. There is still a lot of useful info in those threads so no I don’t think they should be deleted. Every other forum if you ask a question that’s been answered many times over you get the standard response ‘use the search’ feature. Sometimes it’s nicely said and sometimes it’s not. Now if the mods/admins don’t want us to bump old threads than maybe they can put a lock on every one that is a certain age or older? I don’t know if that could be done or not?
Either way their house their rules and after a while in time you get to learn what each forum wants or doesn’t. So I’ll just carry on and abide by the requests of the folks house I’m in right now.

These rules?

Yeah, my post did not meet any of that criteria EXCEPT for the last sentence, which is blanket censorship verbiage, "if we don't like what you said, we can remove it".

Reviving old threads degrades performance, so we ask that posters referencing old threads post their questions with a link to the old thread in their post to minimize degradation. Certainly the admins and mods can discuss an "auto-lock" feature (if possible) on anything older than xxx months old, but we try not to close them because some custom work can take a fairly long time and the OP of the thread can post an update that is pertinent to that original topic when the custom work comes back - we usually make an exception for that kind of update.

Might I suggest that “as a general rule” be cut/paste in the rule page. I went down the cobweb thread hole once before someone pointed out the date to me. Perhaps the tech folks could make the date auto X-fer into the reply box, get bold or do something flashey for us.

Your suggestion has been elevated to the admins and mods for consideration - thank you for being thoughtful enough to make the suggestion.

Welcome to the Forum. And goodbye troll. Sneaking back in and then drawing attention to yourself....tsk tsk.
