How do you handle a doctors visit? (the reason why I carry off body)

I have been spending a lot of time the doctors lately. I had an appointment Tuesday afternoon and rather than go naked or leaving my gun (or guns) in my truck I did what I always do and carried off body.

Usually I carry a holstered 1911 along with a revolver (S&W .357 eight shot snubbie) in a Dillon pocket book.

I probably wore out 4 or 5 Dillon's and this one will need to be replaced soon but Dillon does sell them anymore.

The question is a two part one. How do you handle doctors visits. Also what do you suggest I use now that I can't replace the Dillon? It will only last a few more months before it needs to be replaced.

THIS IS ALL THEY HAVE NOW

I don't recommend off body carry ever. Especially women that leave purses around.

I just leave it in the safe and choose a safer doctors office. I still have my situation awareness to fall back on. No kids around, maybe I can carry a jframe and lock it in my glove box.

The Maxpedition bags are nice targets. "Guess what's in here."

Then again, my laptop case is a Pelican, and I'm still alive.

They always say to bring a friend to the Dr's office, because a lot of stuff is going to happen there in a short amount of time. IMHO, I wouldn't bring a gun, have your the person that goes with you bring two. I'm not kidding about knowing what care is given and how that care is billed out. The care provider goes out of their way to not share that info, with the patient, you have to know what their saying and what to ask for and what rules they are breaking. Don't trust hospitals to do the right thing

These guys might make something that would work for you. though I didn't specifically look.

There's a forum for everything it seems. Every so often I check in to places like this, but it's a sink hole too, I'm sometimes amazed at the stuff people spend their time and money on...

I don't carry off body, except in a coat pocket but it makes sense for you it seems. I do use a max-edition range bag and they sell a velcro/elastic gun holder that can be placed in many bags etc. might also be worth a look, although I'm not a huge fan of the price or "tactical" look personally

it might allow you to retro fit another day planner

Thanks for posting that info, I thought the thread had died with no further posts until I did a search this morning.

I just hope he doesn't do a prostate exam...

C'mon, somebody had to go there.

When going to see my doc, I always carry my Colt Cobra .38 special in my pocket. Never an issue and no one has observed it. There's no signage preventing my carrying in her office and she's never asked if I own guns.

I went to the new Doc and the lady said set every thing in your pockets on the table and weigh in. I was glad I left the gun in the truck.

My son went to the doc. Doc said lift your shirt. The Glock stuck out like a sore thumb and the doc listened with the cold stethoscope and said all good.

I take my 1911 and just put it with my wallet, keys etc. on the counter. The doctor doesn't say a word about it.

Now my dentist is a different story. Everytime I go in there, he bugs me about wanting to buy my 2.5" Model 66. :D

Dispense with all the "man bags", photo-vests, fanny packs, "Sneaky Pete's" and small-of-the back and ankle holsters and carry your fine little 20 gauge double in; you're in South Carolina right?-they know a quail hunter when they see one.
