Back in the Ruger game

Picked this up last Saturday. The third Ruger CMD Iíve had, the other two I had traded off, the wife says I have to keep this one. I put on a mag well, new grips, and a talon front strap. Itís good to have one of these again.

Very nice pistol. I like the mods that you did. I have the full-size, and it shoots great. Maybe some day I'll get one of these to keep it company.

Are those VZ grips?

After a few hundred flawless rounds over the weekend, I decided to carry it for a few days.

They are Cool hand grips, found them on amazon, half the price of VZ, great quality, and two day shipping.

I really do like the thought of installing a magwell on my SR1911. Does this mean special grips? I have another 1911 with a magwell and cannot find any grips with the inside cut-outs for the magwell. I have actually milled my own on some grips I've had laying around just so I had a more grip options for that gun. That is a real PITA. Any info would be appreciated, and where did you get that great looking magwell ?

With a little work the Ruger CMD can be a great gun. After polishing the trigger and internals a few times, adjusting the grip safety, setting the extractor tension, polishing the feed ramp, using wolf recoil 18 lbs springs, putting in a good firing pin spring, drifting and filing the sights and fitting an ed brown barrel it is becoming a very good gun and grouping under an inch with regularity at 10 yards with my bifocals and federal ball ammo kneeling and hitting 6 inch plates standing all day at 25 yards. Still need to address the smooth front strap and possibly add a rear adjustable tritium sight.
