Double Action

I've always had the opinion that double action was darn near impossible to master, and my performance has backed that up for decades.

I fired 500 rounds double action a few weeks ago and finally had halfway decent results, and at least my confidence received a much needed boost. I'm shooting a nicely broken in 686 that has almost always been fired single action.

With positive thoughts I fired a couple hundred rounds last week with results that made me look like I knew what I was doing.

Yesterday I received a newsletter stating that the practical shooting league match this Sunday would be revolvers and shotguns. This is the first time I've ever seen them specify a revolver only, although they've restricted us auto shooters to 6 rounds before.

Talk about good timing on that double action practice...

I'm going to fire a few hundred more tomorrow, as well as do a little work with the shotgun.

Maybe an old dog can learn a new trick once in a while.

Back when I hired on as a cop in the late 70's, PPC shooting with revolvers was about it. Granted we had some excellent revolver smiths back then who could smooth them up like butter, but I've seen some exceptional revolver shooters who shot double action only.

Well I won the "A" class in a revolver/shotgun match yesterday, shooting double action.

Would have won the whole thing but a trap shooter beat my shotgun speed by 2 seconds.

I feel pretty good about shooting double action now, sort of like another tool in the "bag".

I am primarily a double action wheel gun shooter. It's amazing how well a DA revolver can be fired with practice.

Thanks, after all the years of half-hearted attempts, it's nice to see that I can actually shoot double action.

I am very tempted to try this gun at the next IDPA match just for the heck of it.
