All 3 mags won't drop free

Just picked up a Spartan 45. Came with 3 mags. Two mec-gar and one action-tec (apologies if misspelled).

None of them drop free on an empty mag.

Normal?

What do I do to alleviate this for my idpa and uspsa needs? Get new mags?

remove mag release and try it too see if they slide freely without it or try new mags. I like the wilson for the 45 but Tripp and CMC work well also

I had a similar problem a few years back with a para, turned out two of the grip screws were just a hair to long and barely made contact with the mags and wouldn't let them fall out when empty. (Something to check )

Took mag release out. All 3 mags do not drop free still.
The Action Mag is the best of the 3 but it only drops a tiny bit.
Even took grips and screws off.

I would try a mag that is known to reliably drop free. Looks like you got junk mags

Idiot me forgot I have a TRP Operator with 3 seven-round mags.....that 1911 is for sale so it's been cleaned and put away out of sight.

Took the 7-rounders out of the SA and each one slid in and out of the STI so easily. Very nice!

Took the 8-rounders that came with the STI and they all fit in the TRP and each dropped easily. I wouldn't describe their entry into the TRP as seamless (the two Mec-Gar hesitated halfway up).

But seeing as how the Spartan is a game gun I need 8-round mags anyway. Oh well. Looks like the STI gets quality mags on the way and the TRP gets sold with 6 mags, yes!

Other interferrences to look for are:

1. Trigger bow too narrow.

2. Sear Spring bowing into mag well.

3. Disconnector extending into mag well.

If you are able to remove all the parts from the frame, try slipping in a magazine to the stripped frame. Are they still sticking?

Even though the 7-rounders go in and out perfectly I may strip the frame just to become familiar with the 1911 (I'm a total 1911 newbie); and I plan to undercut the trigger guard so it'll kill two birds with one stone.
Thanks for the tips!

If its a game gun, definately put quality mags in it. Having mag problems all through a match is no fun and on mags you really do get what you pay for

Frame stripped.

Mags go in easy with trigger installed. Same with disconnector.
But when I put MSH on the sear spring is the culprit.

Thanks!

Hello: Use Wilson 47D's with a S&A magwell and Dawson base pads. I use a Wilson or McCormick extended mag release depending the game. Dawson fiber front sight 0.100" wide. 14lb ISMI recoil spring and a 17lb ISMI mainspring. Thanks, Eric

I laugh cuz my Spartan is basically being built using your input. I've cleaned all the internals and checked for any spurs or burs. The trigger reset is nice but as you know the stock trigger pull with the stock springs is average. Have bent the sear spring a bit. Your spring combo is up next.

Hello: I think you will like the setup. Some of the mags out there are more square on the front radius and don't fit the opening in the Spartan very well. Also some mags are just not built that well. The 47D's work great and you can get them from Dillon Precision. My next things I will be doing are a ambi thumb safety(Ed Brown or STI) and a short STI trigger. I am starting the front strap checkering this week. Lastly will be hard chrome. Thanks, Eric

Glad to hear that you were able to figure out what was causing the problem.
