What mags do you use in your 9mm Spartan?

I read some reviews on a few different online stores about Wilsons mags that have said the feed lips are too high to function in Spartans. That stinks because I use them in all my .45's. Is this true or just disgruntled buyers and trying to get others not to buy? What mags work best for you guys, should be getting my Spartan friday and would like to order a couple more mags.

I think the supplied Checkmate mag works just fine. I've also ran a couple of MecGars with mine and am satisfied.

The wilsons will hit the ejector unless you take material off the bottom of the ejector. The trip mags function with 10 rounds, seat in the gun well, and no not touch the ejector. The wilsons work well also but you need to modify the ejector or dont slam them in hard on a slide open reload. There are others that work well also but are only 9 rounds

Thanks for the quick replies guys I think the Tripps are worth a try. Don't rerally want to modify if there are ones that work, I didn't know the one that comes with it was a Checkmate, if it functions well I may stick with them. I should be picking it up from FFL this weekend or early next week. Thanks again guys.

Tripps run great in my 9mm Spartan and my 9mm Kimber. The Dawson 10 rounder also runs great in my Spartan.

I have a Sentry in 40 cal (amazing weapon). I intended to shoot Limited 10 and ordered 5 Tripp 10 rounder’s.
They didn’t work. They functioned fine with 9 rounds but when fully loaded the first round would “nose dive”. I spoke with Virgil and he thought the problem was my gun. I explained that my other mags worked fine and so did his if loaded one light. He never would concede. I finally gave up and said I’d shoot single stack. The Tripp standard magazine holds 9 rounds and the rules for single stack allow only 8 when shooting major. I swapped my “10s” for “9s” and guess what, the “9s” are only reliable when loaded with 8.
This could be an issue that is unique to the 40 cal.

Hello: If your mags are not working when fully loaded then cut one coil off the spring. It solves alot of problems. Do one mag and try it first. The Tripp mags use a very good quality mag spring. They take a while to take a set. If you can't wait then cut a coil. The Wilson 9mm mags may need one coil cut off as well. Thanks, Eric

I'm running Tripp 10 round mags in my Trojan 9mm and with FMJ's they work great but will nose dive if I use JHP's. I'm going to try Metalform mags as I here they work great with JHP's. Heres a good read.

I have the same problem cocked/locked has. The 10 round mag will cause a nose dive but if you make it 9 rounds everthing works great.

Got my Tripp 10 rounders and they function great but I really don't like how long they are. There is at least 1/8" of steel between the base pad and the bottom of the grip. They are even longer than my Mccormick 8 round .45 mags. Is this what the rest of you are experiencing. Not that big a deal just cosmetic, I'm a little worried that If I insert the mag with too much force that it may affect something internally because the base pad does not make contact with frame.

I have the supplied magazine ( maybe a checkmate ) a metalform 9 rounder and a wilson 10 rounder. So far every one is working well. I have asked Santa for some Tripp magazines so if i've been good I may find out how they are.
