Long time no see!

It's been literally years since I was a moderator on this forum, and first time back in a while, but wanted to stop by and put out some news.
After all of these years, and thousands and thousands of hand made great fitting grips, it's time for Sarge's Grips to move on. Now that I'm 54, it's time to go live the life dreams are made of. We are moving to a little island named Utila where all I will be doing is diving, eating, drinking and just generally loving the island/ocean life. I will be taking custom orders through January 15th, and we are leaving permanently February 29th of the coming year. The site will be up until we leave. There is NO mail at all on Utila, so obviously I can't run a business like mine from there.
I want to thank all of the customers over the years who have purchased my grips! All of you who trusted me with entire collections at a time to make grips for. You have each made this coming life possible in part. Get what you want before I leave as after that, they're collectors items!
I wish you all well!
Sarge

Hi Sarge! I have always liked the look of your grips, and it's actually been part of my motivation to get into the grip-making world myself. I am just getting started, and have been mostly working on acquiring materials. I will take a look at your site, and I may buy a set of yours before they are all gone. Would you mind sharing some guidance with a newbie regarding your business? I am curious what sort of quantities of grips you sold per year. I have a lot of great ideas for unique grips and how to market them, but I don't have a feel for what sort of demand there is for custom stabilized wood grips, and what I can hold out in front of me as a goal to work toward. I appreciate any guidance and information you can provide, and wish you all the best in your retirement. Thank you!

Sarge
I had to Google Utila to find it on a map -- I only have one set of your grips but fully appreciate them -- good luck with the next stage of your life.

Thanks! The part of the grip that covers the plunger tube is purely for looks. It doesn't actually serve to keep the plunger tube captive. Some people get hung up on the idea that all grips MUST have that feature, when actually several 1911 manufacturers have used factory grips that didn't cover the plunger tube over the years. Personally, I like the lines better on grips that sit underneath the plunger tube. I think it's a cleaner look, rather than a big, swooping arch on the top. But that's just me.
