This is nothing to write home about...but rather something I assembled over my weekend out of spare parts (it's impressive or sad depending on how you look at it)

The upper was originally a 7.5 inch PSA affair and I decided to throw on a 10.5 inch barrel with an A2 front sight and a Magpul forend, I had a Cobratac Krinkov brake lying around...the can is awesome and made shooting a 7.5 inch AR a pure joy (no, really, there was barely any recoil impulse) the downside is it is heavier than comparable units but it's on a shorty that will likely become a truck gun...and I prefer it to the KAK and other lower cost flash cans.
I like the brake so much that I have their slim can on order for my 8.5 inch PDW... really, on my old 7.5 I was shouldering a KAK brace and feeling zero pain after hundreds of rounds.

The BCG is an aimsurplus NIB unit I found on Armslist for 80 bucks, the charging handle is a no name ambi affair (it is forged however) that was given to me last Christmas. The optic is an old TRS-25 on a UTG lower 1/3rd mount that refuses to die after years of indignity and abuse.

The rear sight is a UTG unit that I'm unimpressed with...got it cheap and will likely replace it in the future.

The lower is a PSA with a hogue grip, their mil spec plus trigger. This is my go to, since I was weaned on Milspec triggers and have scored expert with them, so the PSA unit is like butter to me.

From there she's wearing an SBA3 brace and the VTAC sling that I used in the infantry.

After a quick boresight I visited the local range (only 25 meters) and was happy to be right on paper. After four 28 round mags of M855, Tula, Wolf, and assorted garbage I can sincerely say that there hasn't been a single hiccup of bobble. The Cobratac two piece can helped mitigate noise behind the rifle and a great deal of recoil/muzzle rise making it easy to sling lead.

The only things that might change in the future are the additions of a light, a VFG, an Mtech rear sight, and an upgraded optic (Vortex UH-1 or holosun 512S) with a Burris 3x magnifier behind it. Otherwise I am contemplating the wisdom of installing a Sylvan folding stock adaptor.

Again, not a fancy gun or a head turner but a highly practical and effective shorty... I'd apologise for my unkempt stat, but AR 670-1 no longer applies to this guy.

A few more pics. I'm really enjoying how spartan this build is. I have a lot of ARs in various forms from an 8.5 PDW build to an 18.5 DMR, and I've run free floats and LPVOS and Aimpoints, but I'm just really loving how well this sort of flowed together and I love how it balances (really...the weight is centered and it feels like a natural extension).

When I get a chance to stretch her out to 100 meters or more I'll do a range report/accuracy test.

.458 I'm finishing up. Just got my custom bored muzzle brake from tactical Ordinance so it's time to quit dry fitting and time to live fire. No pics of full rifle yet.

8.5 build I just completed.

Mil Spec lower from PSA (Likely going to try out an ALG 2 stage due to multiple recommendations) will be installing a 45 degree grip because I'm STRAC.

Upper is a PSA running their BCG and charging handle, and barrel. Sights are UTG that I got cheap (not worth it, don't cheap out... learned my lesson) optic is the AWESOME AT3 Rd-50. Think a TRS-25 on roids. Got it super cheap as a return from their website and I've got to say that it's been on multiple guns and including an 870 and kept ticking (not as good as an Aimpoint...but plenty good for home defense), Matrix Arms Charlie rail with a brand X AFG thar I got for a good price on Armslist, Cobratac slim flashcan.

Dog from No Dog Left Behind Rescue.

My PSA upper with a 14.7' barrel and 1.5" pinned muzzle break = 16.2" for legal sake.
The lower is an Aero Precision.
