Absolutely not ! Statehood means two more Senators who would be forever leftist democrat sock monkeys. The city cannot even run it's self with out federal oversight... Yeah ! We need a few more Marion Berry types running around Washington.

Already done and a donation to GAO.
No “State” should have any advantage from having the National Capital within its borders. That was the reason for the establishment of District of Columbia.

And done, with a couple of special edits for my own Representative, a long-time Democrat. Alcee Hastings. Not that he'll listen, that man is impossible to worth with if you're not one of his.

Federal Oversight and a LOT of federal money.
The 'Annual Payment' if huge and for the most part the Feds have to supply there own police protection and guards.
All the city provides is less than first class streets and the fire department.

And they have to be accompanied into many buildings by guards.

Don't see how they can even hope to get it through as the Constitution spells out NO Statehood for DC

Well, the Constitution was written by white racist slave owners, so as far as the leftists are concerned it should be null and void. This is nothing but another power play to allow the Dems to break the perpetual 50/50 tie in this country's political makup. That's why they also want statehood for Puerto Rico and ultimately to extend voting rights to all felons and non-citizens. They are trying to get more people who will vote Democrat on their side, and to allow two notoriously leftist jurisdictions (DC and Puerto Rico) to have their own reps and senators would achieve just that.

And why they threatened to pack the Supreme Court to essentially render the Constitution null & void. Signed and donation made.

Not gonna happen in a million years...

DC statehood would require the repeal of the 23rd Amendment which already grants them 3 electoral votes for president. It would also violate Article I, Sec. 8 of the Constitution that specifies control of the federal capital district to Congress.

Finally, DC statehood has already been tried once by a proposed amendment, the DC Voting Rights Amendment, which failed to be ratified in 1985.

Dems in the House of Representatives can grand-stand all they want over this, but all it is a an attempt to create even more division within the American people under the DNC's strategy of divide and conquer.

BTW, DC already has more political liberty than any other city in the country. The District Home Rule Act of 1976 pretty much makes them immune from any interference in their daily business by anyone (unless and until the mayor and city council really eff-up like they did in the recent riots inviting the president to send in the National Guard or regular military).

In principle, if this were allowed to happen, you would have a precedent for ANY city to petition for statehood. Imagine if NYC, Los Angeles, San Fran or Seattle became their own states...

I wish Seattle would become its own country...

I think it's about time to move the capitol out west.

Say, Oklahoma City?

That would be fun!

Not only fun but fair as DC does not represent the overall country, hasn’t for a long while. A more Physically central location would be far more representative of our great country. If representation of the population of DC is the true motivation behind this movement, then the simplest “fix” would be to ceded the land area back to VA and MD, making a new DC only that land occupied by Federal Building around the National Mall, the White House (we may need to change that name as well) and the Capital building. No one would actually “live “ there except for the President and he has special status. This way the people in the former DC area would now be resistants of either VA or MD and be properly represented by those states.

If DC were to become a state, it would be the only state in the union without a single gun store or FFL within it's boundaries.

This whole D.C. statehood thing is posturing by the dems to stir up more dissent. The national total domination fantasy on the left runs pretty deep.

Happily sign the petition and support GOA, though.

And that’s exactly what the Dems want — No LGS or FFL -- for all the states.
Nothing new here.
