I appreciate all the kind comments and words of encouragement, all. I'm sure the families would as well.

The services for Butch and Elizabeth are tomorrow, and for me personally it will be nice to have a bit of closure. The healing process is long, but it does happen.

My deepest condolences to their friends and families. It always cuts deep when a fellow LEO (including DOC) goes down in the line of duty.

A few photos from the memorial procession today; The city streets and freeway overpasses were lined with citizens, firefighters, and cops from Santa Cruz to downtown San Jose, where the memorial service was held in the HP Pavillion:

My beat partner took this photo...she was riding shotgun with me and I've got to say I'm impressed...she's never used a manual camera before, let alone a DSLR:

Folks, this will not be a discussion thread like all the others. I regret that I had to delete several posts that I consider off topic. Please, please ..... post the end of watch reports and then keep the remarks brief.

I am doing this to maintain a certain degree of solemnity for this stickied thread.

Thank you,

Fin

Sheriff Eugene Crum of Mingo County WV was gunned down today as he parked his car to go to lunch. Sheriff Crum was widely known around the WV coalfields for an unrelenting war on drugs. Sheriff Crum had previously served 12 years as a Mingo County Magistrate after retiring from the Delbarton WV PD as the departments Chief of Police. He had been sworn in as Sheriff this past January.

Sheriff Crum's killer has been arrested after a short pursuit in which the gunman was shot by one of the deputies.

Mississippo Officer killed during interrogation

Another tragedy.....no details released as of yet. It will be interesting to learn how the suspected killer was able to obtain a firearm in the investigation/interview room at headquarters.....

My prayers go out to the deceased detective and family.....

I read that I must say my eyes teared up big time ! God Bless not only every human that steps in harms way but every one of "mans best friends" (that have them same natural instincts of looking out for others before themselves) as well !!!!!

Officer down

On 9-13-13 Rockwell Iowa lost an officer. Jamie Buentine a 12 year police veteran was shot and killed while trying to bring Corey Trott into custody for an outstanding warrant. Buentine was a member of a regional SWAT team and a firearms instructor.

Trott surrendered and is charged with first degree murder. He is in custody at this time.

Buentine leaves behind a wife a 2 children. My heart goes out to his department and family.

I'm asking that all Iowa officers and any officers that which to do so wear their black bands over their badges in honor of Officer Buentine.

Rest now Buentine your tour of duty is complete
