RIP Roger Shambaugh

I only found out today that Roger Shambaugh had passed away. Not sure that it was noted on the forum but Roger was a moderator here and was an acquaintance of mine who I held in respect.

I am moving to Kansas and thought that I would look him up at some point. It had been some time since I had spoken with him and I had lost his contact information so I started looking online and found that he had passed earlier this year.

RIP, Roger.

While he was a Moderator, he didn't post on the Forum often. I corresponded with him more on the API list, but there was no obit there, either. With his illness, he had been hit or miss on the API list for a while.

New member here and I think it's great that this sub forum is dedicated to Roger. I only got to know him a little as he retired a few months after I got hired on as a reserve in Franklin County. I was in a defensive driving class with him and his stories during the breaks were far more entertaining than the class was!

That's a real bummer! Too bad I'm two years too late.

Now I have to tell you a story.

In 1999, I met Roger through an online forum (Glocktalk, I think).
It was my first online firearms trade. I traded him the first pistol I ever bought, an ex-NJSP HK P7M8, purchased from a retired trooper. Roger sent me a Colt M1991A1 Commander and a Glock 22 in return, which I believe was his duty weapon at some point.

The following year I used that Glock 22 when I put myself through the police academy. In 2002 I fell on some hard times and sold the Glock. 11 years later I ended up working at the same police department as the guy I sold it to. He sold it back to me for $300. It is now my daily off-duty carry pistol. It's a beat up old work horse, but the sentimental value is immeasurable.

RIP, Roger.

My father

I must say it is truly heart warming to have found this thread. Roger was my father and I can recall him being on here throughout most of my childhood. I remember him speaking very very highly of those of you he had met off this forum. theolog, I am not sure if you will see this but I would love make contact with you. Thanks gentleman. We, his family, really appreciate it.
