Kimber Tactial Custom II

Kimber Tactial Custom II, Ambi Safety, Night Sights and Magwell.

VZ Grips, G10 Double Diamond, Cut for Ambi Safety and Magwell.

Gun is flawless.

My other duty gun, Glock 19 with TLR-1. I now carry even more gear than what is pictured here. I have no usable space.

Will have to go to the Glock due to a bad back and recent injuries.

Up until about 6 months ago I carried a department issued Glock 17. The new Sheriff is a 1911 man and authorized us to carry a quality 1911 if we wanted to purchase our own. We had to provide the first 500 rnds of range ammo and once we had a full day of range time with them and qualified, the department provided training and duty ammo after that. SO now I carry the Kimber SIS/RL and love it. Can't imagine ever carrying anything other than a 1911 again.

I know how you feel, I finally caved in and had back surgery back in December I couldn't carry my 1911 when I came back to work, It hurt my back. I carried a glock 23 for 3 months till I could get my 1911 back on my hip.

Just a question or three from someone new to 1911's:

1. Why aren't there more S&W's on the list? Are they not popular with LEO's due to price, reliability, or other?

2. Do any 1911 manufacturers help departments get deals/trade-ins on their department firearms, like with Glocks?

3. Are so many Springfield and Kimber models popular due to reliability? Price? Other?

Thanks!

Okay, might not count since I'm no longer FT LEO, but have gone back as Reserve Officer and only put in 24-48 a month now.
Work mostly on and around the water, usually from a 21' boat around a large port area and numerous rivers, creeks, canals, and waterborne rif-raf.
I carry a stainless SA TRP, with a Les Baer GI length recoil spring guide and Wilson spring cap and a few other upgrades or modifications. Also a RRA Government Model black rifle.

Maybe a little OT but, talking to a "youngster" in his 70s day before yesterday at the barbers (yep - some of us still have hair) about how we carried our 45s during our WW II duty - he was in the Coast Guard and said their 45s were all 22 caliber - he had no idea what they'd shoot with thse 22s ???

I assured him ours were all 45 caliber loaded with hardball ammo - we were supposed to have empty chambers but not all of us always did.
