Do you carry it with those stag grips? Very retro cool if you do. I have a nice set of stags that I'll put on my Springfield for court and events (they go well with my brown leather basketweave rig) but I'm too afraid of them getting damaged to keep them on there every day. I use Duragrips Gritty Grips for normal duty carry.

Would you carry a RIA

To my fellow LEOS would you consider carry a Rock Island as a duty weapon . If so are there anything you would do to it besides breaking it in before you carried it. I am looking at the end of the year in purchasing a 1911 but with a limit on funds. Been looking at SA but they seem to hard to find. Probaly looking at $600-800 range.

Personally, I would not use a RIA for duty. You can find new Springfield Range Officers and Loadeds, S&Ws, SIGs, and some Colts and Kimbers in your price range if you look hard. If you're willing to buy a lightly used gun and spend a few bucks to have it thoroughly gone over there are some real deals to be had if you put in the time to hunt them up.

A much as it pains me to say it, if you can't afford a good quality 1911 for duty, look at the M&P line or (ugh) even a Glock to hold you over while save up some coin.

Thanks this will not happen for a couple of months, but I do carry a Glock 27 now and love it. Have been carrying Glock since 1994 when our agency issued them. Love them but want to go with a 1911 looking at a kimber custom II. Stll shopping around.

$600-$800 can buy you a Kimber Custom II or Springfield Loaded if you look in the right places. I was just on gunbroker.com and there were several Kimber Custom IIs NIB that were right in your price range. Good luck on your purchase.

Seconded.
You can find TLEs and RLs in that range as well.

Before I retired I carried a Kimber Warrior on SWAT calls and a Springfield Compact other times. As an administrative captain, I just wanted something light. I now carry a S&W 1911 SCe bobtail which is my favorite retired cop gun. When I'm packing light, it's a Kahr CW9 with crimson trace.

Add another Kimber to the mix.

He is my Kimber TLE/RL II with some love from Wilson Combat. I use the Wilson ETM Magazines and Winchester Ranger duty ammo.

Carried a Colt Combat Commander, brush satin nickle, stock back in the day.

Went through with all the new fan-dangle semi auto's to include Smith and Wesson 39's, Smith and Wesson 4506, HK's, Glocks, then the Smith and Wesson MP45, then the Sig 220.

At this time, I carry a Springer Loaded, SS, black chrome, no mods, just stock. My partner totes a Springer Mil-Spec parkerized with Ed Browns guts.

I came full circle, damn glad I did. Does this count?

I have carried this Springfield TRP for a few years. Recently added the Gunner Grips from VZ.
