The Bangor Police Department in Maine allows the 1911.

Bluecard, could I get a copy of your 1911 handlers course?

Both Plano (~400 officers) and Richardson (~160 officers), TX PDs allow 1911 carry and in Plano, it's the most popular gun after the issued Glock 22.

Blucard, could I also get your 1911 handler's course?

Email it to me at [email protected]

Thanks,

Wayne Dobbs

At one time the following issuer or allowed the 1911, I don't know if the list is still current or not: Hermosia Beach, CA; Compton, CA; Bolder SD, CO; Dover, NH. If I can find the list I compiled for a college class, I'll post it. The 4 mentioned are all I can remember right now.

If it ain't metal, single stack, and single action, it ain't a 1911 no matter what it looks like!!

1911

Compton, Ca. is now patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff who does not authorize the 1911.. However, Anaheim PD DOES!

Monrovia and Arcadia PDs in Kalifornia can use 1911's, but they are limited to non-single-action guns. Paras only. Better than nothing though!

Rohnert Park, in Northern California (Police and Firefighters)
The Admin. wouldn't approve the "True 1911"(single action) because of the "hammer cocked carry", but do allow the officers to carry the Para P14 LDA's. Like the previous member in the forum, "better than nothing"!

Riesel TX PD

Riesel PD allows 1911 but you must shoot the entire qualification course without a jam of any kind.

They issue Glock 21s, and I know Sig P220s are authorized as well (that's probably what I'll carry if the 1911 ist verboten.) Anyone seen a KHP trooper with a 1911, or know anyone who would know one way or the other?
I'm a PD Officer from Kansas. The troopers are issued the G21, but I have been told by a trooper that they can anything they want for a "backup" as long as they supply it and can qualify with it.

Add one more to the list:
Burden Police Department, Burden Kansas.
Officers can carry Glocks, Sigs or 1911s from the approved list.

Damn those Ripon guys!!!!!!

I'm still trying to convince Manteca PD that 1911s are a good decision. One range master is hell bent on never having the 1911 on the approved list. No real reason other than its cocked and locked.

I'd love to get some help on how some departments were able to get them approved!

Our department has almost everything else on the approved list including:

H&K
Sig Sauer
Beretta
Glock

There was an incident with a reserve officer in Modesto PD a few years back where he went hands on with a guy after he drew his 1911. There was a ND and the suspect was shot in the chest. After that there has been a huge scare here about the "cocked and locked" demon guns around here. Nothing is said about the fact he had his finger on the trigger and had it been any other weapon system (including the Glocks issued and loved here) the weapon would have discharged as well.

So now thanks to a reserve officer's horrible gun handling and inexperience we are all punished.

1911 in Kentucky

Transylvania University DPS allows 1911 as a back up but the only Dept I can think of as a primary is the Cynthiana Police Dept., and they do not issue the pistol. you have to supply your own.

No Jams

Absolutely to all other guns. I owned a Glock 21 that would jam one or two out of every 10 rd mag it had in it. 0 jams from high cap.

Glock 9mm (Hate those BB Guns) Officer carrying the gun on duty. Jammed every other shot. (Another Agency)

A trend?

In looking at this list, it would appear as if the entire eastern United States is 1911 deprived, or no one on this forum is from the east? Fact or fiction....
