Original Parts

What are some sources for original
Parts? I have a Colt manufactured Apr 1914. I know it has been armored and suspect the slide release has been changed. Grips also. Where do I look for some “new/old original” parts?

There are no "sources" unfortunately as the supply of surplus GI 1911 parts dried up back in the late 1990s. All you will find now are parts being sold by individuals on eBay, Gunbroker, or at local gun shows. Be prepared for some sticker shock, especially parts for early guns like yours which will be like finding hens teeth. A lot of us will literally spend years searching for a particular part.

Avoid the temptation to replace everything on your brand-new 1911 just to make it "better". Know what you're changing out and why. You may spend a lot of money fixing things that weren't broken to begin with. Shoot at least 500 rounds through it first, then decide what you don't like and want to improve. Regarding vintage 1911s, pre-1970 pistols are highly collectible in original, unaltered condition and should NEVER be refinished or modified as it completely ruins their monetary value.

Those of us in Dallas seldom stump Jeff Lee. His place is a museum of gun parts. Note he enjoys 4 day weekends EVERY WEEK. Give him a call, he’s a good guy.
