No. We have been issuing Speer Gold Dots for the last twenty years. Good round but I would like to see an HST. I do not think there is enough difference between the two to go through the trouble/expense to change.

Gold Dots, and Federal HST are the two most popular brands used by Police.
Winchester had a line for law enforcement, but I don't see them anymore, may have been discontinued.

In my 25 years we've only changed ammo 2-3 times per caliber. In 9mm we went from standard pressure 115 gr Remington JHP to 147 Black Talon to 147 Winchester Ranger.

40 Cal has been 180 gr Ranger since we went to it for a brief time between 2003-2006. 45 was 230 Hydra Shok then 230 Gr Black Talon and now 230 HST.

We usually go with state bid....we were using HST 230 HP but switched to Winchester ranger T before the HST we had Hydra shock....only allowed 45 acp for about 9 years. 9mm was federal 115 hp, then 115 Winchester, then 147 Hydra shock....then 124 gun Speer GD. Now its 147 HST.

We carry Ranger T (nee Black Talon) in God's Caliber.

The little people carry Europellets in 124gr.

Speer Gold Dot +P for a while now. Our SO allows different calibers 9mm and above with most carrying 9mm.

Troopers have gone to the 9mm Hornady Critical Duty 135gr +P. They have fairly recently swapped over from .357 Sig.

in the 90s we were Hydra Shoks

Then low bid put us in PMC El Dorado Starfire

When Admin changed (2008) ..... I became the direction on guns and ammo.

We have been Gold Dot for quite some time. I too would like to try HST but we have so much Gold Dot (to weather any storm).... it would take years for the HST to make it up front.

I have always heard good things about Gold Dot, and never a bad word. Why switch?

Its just talk.

We are about to order more GD for the next budget year.

HST and Gold Dot have a good track record (so does other manufactures)

I have worked through low bid ammo before.

They used to buy us Wolf and the fired cases were sticking in the chambers. So they stopped buying handgun Wolf and continued in .223 (before the poly coat).

We would go to week long training (out of town), and I could leave our cases of Wolf on the table (overnight) and the next day.... it would be there

We were using "commercial" reloads for practice. Had some without primers, bullets backwards and squib loads!

When I was chief I allowed my guys(small department however) to carry whatever load shot best in the pistol/rifle they chose as duty weapons. Some guys carried Federal, some Winchester, some Remington in our duty calibers of .45, .40. and 9mm. One 9mm guy swore his Glock 19 shot Hornady like a laser so he used it.
Since I'm no longer chief(politics aren't my forte) and am now the department's firearms instructor, we haven't changed. Our department foots the bill for 150 rds of the chosen rifle/pistol loads each year. We shoot our duty loads twice a year for quals(ball ammo in same weight as duty the other 4 firearms training days) to keep ammo fresh and acquainted with how the load works in our duty weapons.

We had unlimited practice ammo supplied "commercial reloads" at the range, but it was such poor quality your groups were more of patterns. some felt like low power target and some felt like +P!

We go with the low bid however I write the specs so that only quality defensive ammo such as Gold dots, Winchester Ranger SXT, or Hornady critical defense loads satisfy the requirements

We use Speer Gold Dot. We authorize three calibers. 9mm, .40, and .45. We used Federal HST for 9mm as an alternate once, but Gold Dot has been our standard since we started issuing duty ammo about 20 years ago.

When we switched to .40 S&W in '96 we went to Golden Saber and stayed with it until my agency changed to 9mm in 2018. At that time we switched to SIG Elite 124 grain JHP.

Last week I attended an autopsy of a subject who made a bad decision by combining meth and a shotgun in a national chain convenience store.

The four 124 grain Speer gold dot 9mm's he caught guarantee he will not make any more bad decisions.

The expansion is so uniform all four bullets look like they were prepared for a commercial.
