95% agree, I grew up shooting 1911 and I'm comfortable that in a panic situation I will instinctually unsecure the weapon from a stage 1 carry and hit the target. Having said that the trigger on smaller 1911 style pistols like the Kimber Micro 9 and Sig 938 are different so assuming a modified trigger weight and grip I can now carry a "1911 style" pistol in my pocket with the same "battery of arms".

Having said that for new shooters like my son I recommend the simpler striker style pistols like the glocks because they are easier to become proficient with.

300 years ago our fathers would have been teaching us the finer points of the matchlock musket. Times R A changin'.

The great thing about this country is the freedom of choice. In all things including guns.

All of us have different scenarios that cause us to find different weapon systems viable defense platforms.

My 1911's place rounds more accurately for me than my Glock and the other Glocks I used to own. I carry a 1911.

My choice.

With the newer striker fired pistols and the Sig P220, 226's available why would anyone want a glook.

I just don't care for the way a Glock feels in my hands and hate the trigger. Once I shot my first Colt 1911 I knew I'd never carry anything else. I'm a cold dead hands kind of guy when it comes to my Wilson Combat.

Like many others here, I really love my 1911s, as I really love my S&W revolvers. But for daily carry or SHTF, I also prefer more modern, higher-capacity pistols.

If the wolves were at my door, the pistols I would grab are the M&P40 (16 rounds of 180 gr HST or XTP on board) or the SIG P320 .40 Full Size (15 rounds of the same ammo on board). These two pistols shoot so beautifully, comfortably, reliably, with fast return to target and, they offer potentially life-saving high-capacity before a reload. In dire straits, I simply prefer more capacity before a reload than the 1911 offers me.

Yep... 1911s are near and dear to me, but not my first choice when the chips are down.

Carry what you have----what you've been shooting and what you're accurate with and what you know is reliable and have the ammunition to feed it (because you've been training with it all along, right?)

If you survive long enough to rob the post apocalypse battlefield dead of their ammo, you've also survived long enough to rob the post apocalypse battlefield dead of their weapons which are chambered for that ammo.

At least that's the Historical precedent.

Smart man.
I have a SA TRP 45 with light , 8+ one of Federal JHP HST by my bed and a Benelli 12 gauge with seven rounds of OO buck in the corner.

Will I be ready for the Zombie Apocalypse? Probably not. But a couple of gangbangers might get a rude surprise...
