Hawaii Gun Show is a GO!

Despite COVID19 fears, we did NOT cancel our gun show.
Spirits were high even though a few vendors wimped out.
Attendance was fair. A good time was had by all, with more to come on Sunday.

Herewith are some pictures from Saturday.

Hahaha yes, sometimes geographic isolation is an advantage.
We have 2 beef jerky stands this weekend. They are both excellent. I bought some spicy-guava-smoked jerky yesterday and it was excellent.

There was supposed to be a collector's show in the smaller venue next door...they wimped out.

Ironically, there was supposed to be a disaster-prep expo yesterday. It was a state-sponsored event.
They wimped out due the covid19 disaster.

Good for you! Former Hawaii resident here transplanted in LV. Miss the ocean and nice beaches. What I don't miss are the draconian gun laws there. I saw that several more restrictive laws were passed in the last legislative session. You guys will soon pass CA, NY and NJ as the most unfriendly gun state in the nation!

You can still own guns in Hawaii? And this from someone who was born in Hawaii.

I just got back from visiting my daughter in Honolulu. I was totally shocked at both the lack of quality guns for sale and the price of those on the shelf!

While they’ve canceled most things here in Florida like MLB spring training games and schools we did still have a gun show here this weekend at the fairgrounds. A friend of mine went and said it was one of the busiest shows he’s been to in a while.

Here in Fl with a concealed weapon permit we can cash and carry all guns.
What’s the process like in Hawaii at a gun show? You pay for it and then what?

Purell Gun Cleaner, Kills 99.9% of germs, part of a complete firearms hygiene program!

Carbon, Lead, Copper removers, lubricants and preservatives may still be required...

unless you have a Glock...

Well, that's me with my 629 and the sanitizer (thanks old fut for the photo op! ) That show was a lot of fun--I was going to bring a case of TP and offer a roll to anyone who bought one of my guns but as it was I didn't have any to spare and I didn't want to stand around talking about TP all day. A lot of people did use the sanitizer though.

Here in Honolulu you can apply for what we commonly call a long gun permit--you fill out the form, pay your $43 Rapback fee (one time only), wait 2 weeks while PD investigates you (they do send a form letter to your PCP to fill out, one time my doctor joked about how many guns I recently bought), then your permit is good for one year.

With the permit you can buy as many long guns as you want--pay your money (fill out the 4473 if you're at a dealer), then you have 5 working days to present the actual long gun to the PD's registration department, fill out more paperwork, then you get a hard copy of your registration and you're on your way.

BTW military personnel transferring to Oahu must bring ALL of their firearms to the PD for registration--I've been stuck in line 30-40 minutes or longer while a serviceman/woman registered a dozen or more firearms.

For handguns, you have to fill out an application for each exact firearm you are buying, serial numbers included, wait the 2 weeks for each and every transaction, pick up your endorsed permit to acquire at PD then go to the dealer, fill out the 4473 and the back of the pta, then return to HPD with the completed paperwork and firearm within 48 hours of picking up the piece and you get your registration.

I'm not an ffl so if I sell a gun I have to verify that the long gun permit is current. The buyer then pays for the rifle and registers it at HPD. If it's a pistol, I have to hang onto the gun while the buyer waits the two weeks, so I usually take a deposit to hold it. When he/she picks up their permit we meet, I check the permit, sign off on the back, get paid the balance due, then he/she goes back to PD to get it registered.

I sold a dozen guns at this show. The 629 wasn't one of them but that's ok, I like it a lot.

As far as I know, Hawaii is still safe from Covid-19, is it not? How I wish to be there. With community quarantine going on my place, I am limited to do my stuff here.

If we started a rumor that solvent would kill Corona, we could easily tell who the gun guys were by the hint of Hoppes in the air!

It has also been found with laboratory testing, that even Covid19 does not like Glocks!

Yes, that is my friend JC with the purell. It was almost closing time so I was getting bored so I took some funny pictures.

RE escrima stick girl....mmm yummy...now stop whacking your stick.

RE spam...no spam but lots of other snacks. I like the beef jerky. It was a little pricey but worth it.

RE laws...JC explained our laws very well. They're pretty restrictive.

RE solvents...I would think our gun solvents kill just about anything, don't they?

Nope-- we've got 10 or so confirmed cases of covid, one was a locally transmitted case. 1000's of people work in the hospitality industry
so the risk for exposure is high. I haven't gone to the mall or Waikiki yet but I imagine its a ghost town.

Restaurants and businesses are starting to lay off workers, so it's gonna be bad for a long time.

The only upside to this whole situation is that there may be a whole lot of used guns coming on the market shortly. Range toys, collections, whatever, are going to get sold off to make the rent, pay bills and put food on the table. Mind you, I'm not hoping to take advantage in this situation but I'm not going to walk away from a good deal either.

Some used, consigned guns that I was seriously considering just a week or two ago aren't going to get a second look from me unless the prices drop substantially.

Update:
On Monday, the day after the show, the mayor said that there would be no more events larger than 50 people on city property. Of course that decree would have nixed our gun show. So it looks like we just snuck in under the wire....whew!
