Question on Python Box

Anybody have an idea of when this box may have been used originally?

1971 python box

My 1971 python came in that type of wood grain box, if that helps.

My original MK IV Series 70 from 1973 was boxed that way.
Wish I had the original contents of that box now.

That particular box would be the 4th quarter of 1964.

Is that what the 44 in black ink means?

Interesting...

The box that my dad's 197something Woodsman came in was that same wood grain pattern but had a styrofoam split liner and opened with end flaps.

Too bad that box eventually wore out and got tossed!

Chiming in. The Python my dad bought in 1978 came in a woodgrain box, but different from yours in that it was one piece with end-flaps that opened, with split styrofoam inside to hold the revolver. So yours stopped being used sometime mid-late 70's.
