Hi all. Looking to see what you guys thing about the DW ECP vs the DW Vallor Vbob in 9mm for a carry piece. I know the obvious cosmetic differences. Normally I would not like the ECP slide treatment, but on the ECP, I actually like it.

I feel like the ECP's 4" bbl vs the commander's 4.25" bbl is basically a wash. Although, I'm not a fan of the full length guide rod on the ecp and that you need a tool to disassemble it.

What do you guys think? If you had to pick one to ccw, which would you pick and why?

IMO the biggest difference is going to be the aluminum frame vs the steel frame. I've had the Guardian, Valkyrie, and now the ECP (all aluminum frames). They all carried and shot very similar. I've tried carrying my Nighthawk T3 which is similar in size but with a steel frame. After a few hours the Nighthawk was noticeably heavier. With that said I like shooting a heavier pistol but I don't like carrying one.

I have an ECP in .45 Auto. Very nice gun; I shoot it about as well as I do my 5" Valor, also .45. As the post above states, the biggest diff is the steel vs. aluminum frame.

I recently got an ECP in 9mm for my wife. She loves it. Absolutely no problems with it and very accurate.

If I could only have one and it was for concealed carry, I'd opt for a lighter aluminum framed gun. I carry my 9mm Valkyrie commander more regularly than my 9mm Vbob or .45 Valor Commander.

As for the "tool", I assume it is the same one I need for my 9mm ECO - a bent paperclip. I'm not a huge fan of the design and process, but the gun works reliably.

All that said, given DW's current catalog, I'd look seriously at the Guardian or Vigil commander - traditional design, with or without bobbed MSH.

ECP for your wife? Like the old saying, good trade! Just teasing.
