Issue would have been H&K P7-M13 9mm when I started there, now its H&K USP40. But I've always carried an authorized alternate weapon:

Colt full-size Double Eagle .45ACP 1996-2002
Kimber Tactical Custom II .45ACP 2002-present
Colt Defender .45ACP back up/off duty/plain-clothes since I don't know when; shortly after their introduction I think.
Along side these is the Moss. 500 12 ga.
I had to qualify on the issue weapopns one time each before I could use the alternates.

My agency is great, they're very weapon friendy.

S&W 5904 9mm
S&W Model 19 .357 magnum
Glock 22

New Chief allowed personal weapons

Various 1911's (Baer, Brown, Colt)

Now a Glock 21 in a www.tdlabs.com holster (the holster is the only reason I went back to Glock)

Good Lord, let me count the guns:
Beretta 92F
S&W 686
Glock 23
Glock 22
Sig P229
Sig P220
Beretta 96C
Glock 21
Colt 1991A1, Defender (off-duty), Officer Plus
Kimber (TLE, CDP Ultra (off-duty))
Springfield TRP
STI Edge and STI Tactical Lite 4.15 (both .40)
HK P7M8 and P7M13

Rifles: DPMS AR15 M4, M16, HK MP5.

I have been carrying my STI's for about 3 years now. Yes, I know, I'm a member of the gun of the month club. Honestly, outside those I was issued, it took me awhile to find exactly the right gun for me. All of them were excellent guns.

Ruger P95
G22
CZ75SA .40
Springer loaded 1911
Rock River Arms Pro Carry 5" present duty weapon.
Rem. 870

I am a still a rookie. Started in 1990 after finishing 20 with the military.

SIG P226 9mm with a SIG P228 for a second gun.
I have upgraded or changed to a SIG full stainless 9mm with light rail last year.

Still on the full time on the streets for the past 16 years with no issues.

A sincere thanks to all who serve

I have my heart with the 1911 but approved and will more than likely never be.

Since 1982 started with a
Smith and Wesson Model 64
Beretta 92
Beretta Cougar in .45 acp.
All are issued as we aren't allowed a choice. Maybe someday we will get an enlightened chief, but in the northeast it doesn't appear likely.

Oops almost forgot the Remington 870

Anyway: S&W M58 (.41 magnum M&P, a great gun and I would carry it again with confidence);
Glock 17;
Para P13;
S&W 1076 (issued), replaced with S&W 4566. POS Central. I didn't even allow them in my house;
H&K USP 45 (authorized option).

Backups: S&W M642 (ick - from their worst days in the 80s)
Glock 26
Glock 33

I started in 1990 also. The only option from our department at the time for an issue gun was a very used S&W Model 10 (now we issue either Glock 17 or 21's). I opted to buy my own.

1. Sig P226 (still have it, still love it)
2. Glock 21 (never did like it, don't own it anymore)
3. Sig P220
4. HK USP 45
5. Para LDA 7.45
6. Kimber stainless classic LE (has been my duty gun for several years now)
6a. Para LDA 14.45 (rainy day/ radio car gun - Normally I'm on a motor.)
6b. Rock Island 45 (motor training day gun)

Off Duty Carry

1. Kimber CDP II compact
2. Colt Pocket nine
3. Browning Hi Power

Yes I am a freak and have a gun for every occasion!

There is no shame being a member of the Gun O' the month club! I too am a member! My tool box has more than a hammer in it. Why? Because one tool does not work for all jobs. (At least this is what I tell my wife.)

I have been an LEO since 1997

In my various departments, I have carried (read been issued)

Beretta 96D (.40)
H&K USP Compact (.40)
Sig 229 (.357 Sig)
Glock 19 (9mm)
Glock 26 (Personal) (9mm)
H&K USP Compact (.40) (Once again)
S&W 642 (.38 +P) (Personal)
Remington 870 (12 ga)
Colt M16A1 (5.56mm)

On a daily basis, I usually carry my G26. Not as big as a .40, but I believe it is shot placement that counts.
