Changed to this career in '88, and on duty:

S&W 686
S&W 640s
P226/9mm
P220
Kimber CC
Hi Powers
S&W 908
S&W 5904
S&W DPA5906
G23
G35

All were personal except the P226 & 5904. Never did warm up to the P226/9mm - it was forced & just wasn't nearly as accurate for me as several much better choices. The little Smith 908 is surprisingly accurate.

Favorite off duties include two sweet Smith revolvers (M66 & M640) and two good solid Hi Powers, all tuned by Bill Davis' shop back when. The Smith PC built DPA5906 & a Liebenberg built tackdriving 5" 5906 are also favorites. The 2nd Gen G23 was a favorite for a long time. The 1911/45 will go back on my list soon. There are or have been others, but these stand out.

Started in 1980. Same agency until I retired in July 2006.

Worn out S&W M10 HB 4 in. (38spl 125gr SP +P)(issued no choice)
S&W 681 (38spl 125gr SP +P) (issued no choice)
Beretta 96DAO (180gr & finally issued HPs)(issued no choice)
Sig 226 / 40s&w (180gr HPs) (issued no choice)

Always had Rem 870 issued to every patrol car.

No variation allowed unless plainclothes and then only what was currently issued. Up until just before I came on EVERYBODY was required to carry and shoot right handed, whether you were right handed or wrong handed. Uniformity you know.

Not sure I can remember all the different back up guns I carried as that was the only thing we got to chose / provide ourselves.

g22
s&w 4043 biggest pos ever
sig 228
sig 226
SA TRP- not the biggest pos, but a pos "overtime rig"
another g22
S&W 99 gimmicky pos, lasted a whole week
Sig 220r- my favorite so far for duty use
Kimber TLE for my "overtime rig"

They tried to give me a HK USP on a few occasions, they were turned down. I'd rather see the money spent getting rid of the Smith's and starting the rookies right.

Oh yeah Long guns...
RR M4
HK Mp5 nice weapon, but I hated the iron sights swapped for the M4
varied 870's both 18" and a cool little 14"
1187, went back to the 870...
HK FP6, went to the 1187
And the newest, a rem 700 pss .308- I'm a newb at this long distance thing...

Countless off duty wepons, only a few have stayed more than a few months with me... among those are
Kahr pm9
Kel Tec .32, for when I dont have a gun on me
A few S&W j frames, mostly a old 36
and last but not least, the Kimber CDP

S&W 66 (THE hot setup-none to be found on the shelves, only at PDs) 125 Remington SJHPs. Sold it when FTOs asked when I'd get rid of the "pea shooter and get a REAL gun" (.41 Magnum PD started carrying in '64 or 66).
Two different Model 57's, one with a white front insert-early "night sight." 210 WW SWCs until the 175 Silvertips were out.
To CID-a 2 1/2 inch nickel 19, a 3 inch CS-1 686 S&W.
Mid 1980's-arrival of autos-square trigger guard 5904 with Federal 9BP, back to the field-
4563TSW then on to current 4566TSW-230 Gold Dots.
All this thread made me do was cry about the revolvers I've sold. I think I know where I can find that snub 19 I sold in 1989, though....

I started in January of 1990 with:

S&W M3904, then went to a:
Glock G19, which I carried until June of 1992 when I left the department. I didn't get back into LEO work until October of 2000, At that point, I carried one (or more) of the following as my duty weapon:

G22
G17 w/Surefire TacLite
Beretta 92FS
Beretta 96FS
Walther P99 (9MM and .40S&W)
Springfield 1911A1
SIG P239 (.40S&W)

Finally, a department-issued G22.

During those tours, my backup varied from:

Colt New Agent
G27
SIG P230
S&W M640
S&W M442

Longarms included:

Mossberg M500
Beretta 1201 FP
Benelli Super 90
Benelli M121
Winchester M12
Bushmaster M4
USGI M1 Carbine
Ruger Mini 14

All but the last G22 were personal firearms.

started in 1973 and worked for an agency that required self purchased on duty weapons.

carried a smith model 19 6" barrel. then went to a 4" smith model 19 as i found it more portable. later, got one of the first 4" smith model 66. all of these weapons were carried in what i thought was the finest service revolver holster, the hoyt. later, the department issued the then new smith model 59 and i carried one for a little bit before deciding it was too unreliable, and went back to the revolver.

made a lateral transfer in 1980 to another department that issued the 4" model 66 and remained carrying that gun until i retired in 1999.

What I've carried

I am a police officer in central Texas, I've carried as a duty weapon:

Ruger P95 9mm, got tired of the teasing about such a "small" caliber from the other officers who all carried .40's so I went out and bought the pistol I carry now:

Colt 1911 Government .45 ACP Nickel plated and made in 1918, yeah, now I tease them about their small .40's. I'll never buy another pistol as long as I have my Colt. I'm sold

I started in 1989, when I think of all the great guns I traded to get the "bestest and latest" I could cry...
ParaOrd P-14
H&K USP .45
SIG P220
Colt Gold Cup
S&W Model 58
S&W Model 29
S&W Model 586
Colt Python
Colt Gov't
Colt Lightweight Cmdr. (.38 Super, no less!)
Browning HP
Glock 17
Glock 20
AMT Hardballer
S&W 4506
Glock 22
S&W Model 625
Beretta 92
Ruger P90
Springfield XD40
Glock 31
My current duty gun is a Colt 1991A1 .45 as I've aged, I tend to gravitate back to steel and wood in my handguns, like I had when I started this line of work. I don't know if it is nostalgia or if I'm finally coming to my senses...

Well I have only been on for 8 months and my department only authorizes; Smith and Wesson, Glock, H&K, Sig, Colt and Para. The only 1911 style authorized is the Para LDA, people hired before 1988 get to have their Colts.

On the belt;
Glock 22- duty (now) with Streamlight TLR2
Smith 640 .38- Back up
Para nite-tac .45- Duty (when it shows in 10 days)

In the car;
Colt- Ar-15
Remington 870- Buck shot
Remington 870- Bean bag (in the truck)
Pepperball- SA-200 semi-auto
